We ask for respect for our privacy and that of our family,

If they wanted privacy, they should have kept it private. Now it is open season.

Yeah,, i wanted privacy too. To listen to the rock i want, to drive the car i want, to not have to think about the green side of every single act i do. Karma’s a bitch,, and a mean one at that.

That's a bit silly. They are public figures. It's always open season. There is no way this could be kept "private", so asking that "privacy is respected" is the only proactive thing that they could have done.

And I personally do respect their privacy. It is their marriage and their problem and I would deplore using such an event as an opportunity to score cheap political points. I'm sorry the marriage seems to be struggling, but it is none of my business.

What hacks me off is that the same courtesy is not extended to public figures on the right who go through private crises of some kind (e.g. Sarah Palin and her daughter's pregnancy).
