This is going to suck, and the director's little monologue from the article proves it. Hollywood can't make this movie any more than Count Dracula could produce Sister Act - they don't understand the mindset or the mentality in the slightest!

You’re absolutely right.
Two words: Starship Troopers

this is gonna be Rollerball II (with a little bit of V for Vendetta and Stop Loss thrown in for good measure)
To: delapaz
Have you seen Starship Troopers 3?
To: Ed Hudgins
“Actresses who have expressed interest in the role and are reading the script include Cate Blanchett, Keira Knightly, Julia Roberts, and Charlize Theron. Randall Wallace, who wrote the current version of the script, is a strong possibility as director.”
Good grief...

It will be interesting to see the final product. Will they dumb it down? Will they water it down? Rand's atheistic philosophy can come off selfish and mean to some people.
Libertarianism is a hard thing to explain (Rand Paul and Civil Rights), and Rand's Objectivism even more so.
I've never been much of a fan of her philosophy. I always thought is was Nietzsche repackaged for a new generation. I am not knocking her. I think she has done much to champion the cause of freedom, liberty and personal responsibility.
Ironically, I think a dumbed down version would actually help the libertarian-constitutional conservative cause more than a faithful version would.
Just one man's opinion...

OK, who’s going to play Dagney? My vote would be for Ann Coulter.

Long ago I watched "Fountainhead" with Gary Cooper. It was stiff, stilted, and probably one of the worst movies Cooper ever made. Having read a lot about Ayn Rand and how much of her life seemed to have been spent living out values opposite to her philosophy, like creating a semi-totalitarian cult of the personality for herself, I have the feeling that she micro-managed the movie and micro-directed the actors into absolute, bitter, raving frustration, the result being a disaster of a movie. I certainly hope this effort turns out better. I'll definitely have to read Atlas Shrugged for the fourth time (move than I've ever read any other book) before seeing the movie.

I was going to add: Starship Troopers 3 is probably the most subliminally Christian, in your face anti-hippie/peacenik movie in the past 10 years...
But on Galt film, I will have to see the trailer first. It’s like anticipating the Red Dawn movie coming out.
To: Ed Hudgins
This is great news. Glad they are not trying to squeeze it into 3 or 4 hours.
Most of the general public has never read the book. Too thick I suppose. If the movie is done right a lot of people will be exposed to some new concepts. They may actually start to understand what is going on in our nation today. Scary thought for the regime.

Actresses who have expressed interest in the role and are reading the script include Cate Blanchett, Keira Knightly, Julia Roberts, and Charlize Theron. Reading for the part of John Galt are Sean Penn, Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Wahlberg.

If Hollywood has it’s way, anyone who goes ‘Galt’ will be:
1) Racist
2) GOP members
3) Exploitative capitalists
4) Sarah Palin followers
5) Christians
6) A believer in the US Constitution
7) a Bitter clinger
8) Rednecks Rubes like the ‘Deliverance’ mountain men
9) Veterans mentally scarred from Iraq
10) Homophobes

It will
have to be "dumbed down" considerable, both in scope, because of the massiveness of the novel, and ideology, because of the reasons you mentioned. Galt's speech at the end makes this obvious.
And yes, I think the liberals/atheists would LOVE Galt's disparaging of religion.
