While corporations, non-profit organizations, and neighboring communities bicker and boycott over Arizonas tough new anti-illegal immigration law, the two Republicans locked in a bitter U.S. Senate primary agree the law is fine. And thats where the agreement stops.
After four terms in the U.S. Senate, a presidential campaign in 2000, capped by the GOP nomination in 2008, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., faces a serious challenge from J.D. Hayworth a former sportscaster turned six-term firebrand congressman from the Hill class of 94, to conservative radio talk show host.
Make no mistake, McCain still leads the polls comfortably. Real Clear Politics gives McCain a 15-point lead. But as pollster Scott Ramussen notes McCain is hovering around 50 points - dangerous territory for an incumbent, particularly in a throw the bums out cycle.
Of all the Republicans in Congress, not one has more immigration baggage than McCain. In fact the only other figure on the national GOP scene with more is former President George W. Bush.
(snip)
McCain built a career by breaking ranks with his party, often compromising with liberals and infuriating the GOP. Despite being the GOPs presidential standard bearer just two years ago, there is no shortage of frustration and sour memories among Arizona conservatives.
(snip)
...McCain is also unique as the principal GOP sponsor of immigration reform with Ted Kennedy; if Hayworth hits that message right, the August primary could be McCains last race.

Send the pathological liar into retirement.
Can Hayworth get the message out? If he can get up an outstanding add that makes the point that McCain is an open borders guy, no matter what he says now, he might win after all.
LOL
His last stand is on quicksand. He has to run against his own record.
J. D. Hayworth for Senate.
Contribute now and send McShame packing:
PLEASE send money immediately to J.D. Hayworth. You can be sure the liberal RNC is supporting heavily MeQueeg. jdhayworth2010.com. Thank you.
Yes, McCain and his “progressive daughter”. I’m sick to death of both of them.
What’s that saying...blows with the wind???
Rasmussens' latest poll 18May2010 was 48 to 41 McQueegs favor. So J.D. is closing the gap.
McCain must have some internal polls that are showing a closer race. He’s doing a total re-invent of himself and he wouldn’t be doing that unless he was running scared.
I have a feeling he’s not going to make it through the campaign. I honestly don’t know how he keeps such a pace at his age and never mind his mother’s advanced age. I just have a nagging feeling about this.
That said, I thought JD did a fantastic job on MTP against that horrid Gutierrez (misspelled his name and I don’t care) who tried to filibuster as always.
JD nailed him for all the “poll tested words” and for mentioning his work with McCain/Kennedy on “immigration reform” which they’d do again, albeit, without the Swimmer.
HISTORY OF AMNESTY (AKA pathway to legalization) Amnesties have brought us non-stop illegal immigration.
Heres some of the disastrous measures ultra-liberal Teddy Kennedy used to trash our culture. Kennedy was in a class by himself when it came to destroying our borders and our quality of life. He died, after promoting Obama into office, knowing Obama would continue destroying our borders.
Kennedy pushed SEVEN amnesties into law. Even though it was said to be the goal, none of it was ever followed by a reduction in illegal immigration.
1. In 1986, Ted Kennedys blanket amnesty for 2.7 million illegal aliens promised a lot more enforcement but did not set any requirements for actual reductions in illegal immigration.
2. In 1994, Ted Kennedys Section 245(i) Amnesty gave legal residence and jobs to 578,000 illegal aliens. It was a temporary rolling amnesty primarily for extended family members of immigrants who instead of waiting in line, come on to the country illegally.
3. In 1997, Ted Kennedys extension of the Section 245(i) rolling amnesty was followed by an increasing flow of illegal immigration.
4. In 1997, Ted Kennedy also won an amnesty for close to one million illegal aliens from Central America. Illegal immigration sped up some more.
5. In 1998, Ted Kennedy won an amnesty for 125,000 illegal aliens from Haiti.
6. In 2000, Ted Kennedy got the so-called Late Amnesty, legalizing another 400,000 illegal aliens who claimed that they missed out on Kennedys 1986 amnesty.
7. In 2000, Ted Kennedy also won the LIFE Act Amnesty for an estimated 900,000 illegal aliens. It was another reinstatement of the rolling Section 245(i) amnesty...an estimated 900,000 illegal aliens. Illegal immigration accelerated.
=================================
Over and above the millions who violate our borders, 1.5 million legal foreign workers come to the US each year, as a matter of course.
But this number isnt high enough for Dem Cong Gutierrez and his 92 co-sponsors. Their Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill includes a provision called recapture that will add up all the supposedly unused work visas since 1992 and issue them immediately.
This is a complete fraud, as all unused work visas are rolled over to the family reunification category the next year as it is.
Gutierrez' Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill will create 100,000 visas from countries that send the most illegal immigrants every year. According to the State Department, this will mean 550,000 new foreign workers.
AND GET THIS Mexico is the staging area for Third World and other illegals preparing to violate our borders. The Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill rewards Mexico b/c they calculatedly promote illegal immigration.
Gutierrez' bill will make it much easier for more illegal aliens to break in. Under the Bill, to prove they have jobs and were in the country BEFORE Congress passed amnesty, illegals are allowed to use stolen ID's, fake green cards, and fraudulent SS numbers....... without fear of prosecution.
Mexico facilitates the profitable staging area for global illegals to cross the border. Contrary to Obamas claim that CIR bill will increase border security, it does just the opposite.........
<> it guts successful enforcement measures,
<> limits raids on illegal immigrants,
<> prohibits use of troops on the border,
<> replaces E-Verify used to ensure employers hire legal American workers,
<> overturns all state and local US laws that crackdown on illegal immigration,
<> abolishes 287(g) that allows local L/E and federal authorities to apprehend criminal illegals.
Gutierrez makes Van Jones look like a patriot.
Can we get Obama to campaign for McCain? After all, he said nice things about Obama. It’s only fair.
I see now that I *did* correctly spell his name “Gutierrez” using my Espanole’ phonics. He’s a nasty piece of anti-American national security and exceptionalism and cares NOTHING about valuing American citizenship.
Another check on the way.
