Egypt has held what was termed a major military exercise in the Sinai Peninsula that appeared directed against Israel. Officials said the Egyptian military concluded a major exercise in the Sinai on May 23. The five-day exercise, titled Badr-2010, included air, armor, infantry and special forces, and was based on a scenario of an Egyptian attack eastward toward Israel.

"Fighter-jets, helicopters, armored units, special forces and paratroopers participated in the maneuvers," Egypt's state-owned Middle East News Agency said.

This marked the second major exercise in Sinai in less than a week. On May 20, Egypt's military concluded Nasser-3, an eight-day live fire exercise that was led by the 2nd Army.

MENA did not refer to Israel in Badr-2010, led by the Egyptian 3rd Army. But the agency said the simulation was based on a scenario of an Egyptian crossing of the Suez Canal and an attack deep into unidentified enemy territory.

Egyptian Defense Minister Hussein Tantawi said Egypt deployed mechanized infantry, armored units and artillery in the Sinai exercises. Tantawi said the Egyptian ground forces were supported by a range of fighter-jets and air defense batteries.

"There is a need to focus on combat training and night operations in light of the technological development of weapons and equipment as well as modern methods of warfare," Tantawi said.

Tantawi said Egypt was using the latest Sinai exercises to test new weapons, military systems and methods. He said the military wanted to enhance command and control as well as interoperability and combat readiness.

During Badr-2010, Egypt's infantry worked with helicopter and air defense forces to repel an unidentified enemy attack. Officials said the exercise marked a major test of inter-service cooperation.

Egypt made peace with Israel in the late 70’s when Israel suggested that they could destroy 90% of Egypt’s population by detroying the Aswan Dam (with their nukes). That capability still exists..

Why Israel gave back such a huge chunk of land, I’ll never know. It was promised to them by God.

Jimmy Carter made them give it back.

After spending 6 months in the Sinai monitoring Egyptian military movements, I can tell you that their troops SUCK. I don’t care what equipment they have - it won’t matter.
