I took a break from work, and watched the live feed for a minute. I either just saw the whole thing entirely blow out, or BP is implementing LMRP or hot tap right now.
Specifically, I saw a HUGE rain of white clumps and particles which are either foam-like objects used in a junk shot or methane hydrates.
Then all of the water within the camera view got very, very dark. When I looked more closely, I could make out the outline of massive jet-black plumes of oil rising from below the camera.
At least as of right now (6:00 pm Pacific Standard Time), if you look at the live video feed below, you can see what I mean.
This is either very, very bad, or BP has abandoned the top kill/junk shots altogether and is in the middle of surgery where it has already cut off sections of the BOP and/or riser, and is trying to cap it off with a sealing grommet.

Beats Chinese seafood. BTW BP is a foreign company, Do you realize that the Chinese are drilling off our coast?, the Vietnamese? Angola? We are about the only folks that arent drilling. You think foreign company's will show more environmental caution?
People are worried about real estate
I really hope that is not true. They really need that second well in this type of situation. When drilling wells, things seldom go as slick as planned (30 years wireline experience). At least 25% of our time was spent not logging wells, but trying to figure out what was going wrong and how to fix it. The figuring out and fixing part causes a lot of lost drilling time. BP doesn't have time to loose on the drilling of relief wells.
I think its a great idea to invest in windfarms in your view.
Keeps the unsightly bastards out of Texas
They just switched out ROV’s about ten minutes ago - new one is from Neptune drill rig.

You’re a whacko. You can have all the windmills you want, I’ll pass. Don’t bother to respond. I’m done with you, BP as* kisser.
See, I always ask, "Where were you before?" Were you sitting around day and night thinking, "Those BP Obongo minions are going to ruin everything with that Deep Horizon project!" ... I don't think so!
I think this catastrophe blindsided you just like it blindsided BP. Naturally there must have been some profound weakness in their approach to this project, but it was something they didn't expect, something beyond their calculations, and apparently something beyond everybody's calculations. This is what mystifies me.
Gnight
Already CNN international is asking whether Obama will see this "as an opportunity to finally reign in American energy consumption which is, per capita, staggeringly higher than the rest of the world"...
ABC News is just reporting and mocking this as BP magic bullet attempt, but I swear just 2 days ago obama said he was calling all the shots
Here comes regulation via cap and trade
Jeez, I feel like it was 2 hours ago.
I just heard on the squakbox
Signing off.
But I ask this question.
What are the handwringers doing to fix the situation?
There was no blindsided concerning BP, the "Bean counters" were calling the shots instead of their engineers and service company people.
Most bean counters are too busy complying with federal regulations to get involved with operational minutia.
“...but it was something they didn’t expect, something beyond their calculations, and apparently something beyond everybody’s calculations. This is what mystifies me.”
According to the articles about the argument between the driller and tool pusher on the rig with the company man (BP) - the driller had an idea what would happen if they didn’t follow the plan and keep going with the mud until more cement had been added and allowed to cure more.
What mystifies me is why, when the backflow pressures kicked back that someone didn’t say “Hey, ol’ Hank the driller was right - start adding mud RIGHT NOW!” Instead they wait and it calms down and the keeping going, and then it kicked again, they wait, then keep going.
I wonder if the driller was off-duty, or perhaps even off the rig by this time.
I am very much pro-oil. That was my education, and worked on a rig for a couple of summers. Can’t say I’m pro company man. Or pro bean counter.
