A Boaz woman trying to retaliate against the person who repossessed her car got burned in the process.
Literally.
Authorities say Haleigh Elizabeth Boland, 26, accidentally set herself on fire while she was torching the car of the person who had taken hers. To make matters worse, the entire incident was caught on tape.
"It was just a big act of foolishness all the way around," said Etowah County Sheriff's spokeswoman Natalie Barton.
The incident happened May 8 when authorities said Haleigh Boland and her father, Benny Gene Boland, 50, went to a home on Carlisle Cut-Off Road in the Mountainboro community and poured gasoline on a car.
When investigators talked to the victim, they found the crime was recorded by a video surveillance system mounted on the home.
The video shows a person deputies say is Haleigh Boland catching on fire and taking off her burning clothes as she runs to a getaway vehicle driven by her father.
"It was a team effort," Barton said.
Father and daughter are charged with first-degree criminal mischief, which is a felony, authorities announced today. They have been released on $2,500 bond each.
Haleigh Boland suffered first- and second-degree burns on her upper body, Barton said.
Some people just can’t do things right.
Darwin Award runner-up
A lot of people don’t know how fast gasoline can go up, or that the fumes can spread out over a huge area.
First they don’t pay their loans, then they spitefully destroy the property they covet?
Sounds like liberals.
After she ran away, in the background, she looked like one of those Polynesian fire dancers.

Mr. Darwin, paging Mr. Darwin.....
Stupid is as stupid does.
Gotta give her credit for keeping quiet. Set herself on fire — and not a peep out of her!
I know, right?
I’m still freakin laughin.
Note to self: When torching a car bring wood matches instead of Bic lighter.
Note to self: Stop, drop & roll.
Great, but very strange movie. Much like Maximum Overdrive
Remember: Drop and roll...
I think that is only the second time I have heard of Boaz, Alabama. The first time was 40 years ago when I worked at a Summer retreat with a girl from there.
She was one of the two or three most beautiful girls I have ever known. The only reason I clicked on this thread was to make sure it wasn’t her.
Stupid dummy couldn't figure out how to put herself out. She runs around for a long time. We need a close up arrest pic of this loser.
I'm going to figure this is a pre-fire photo. Probably from her drivers license. Looks too mellow to have just been burned up.
"It was just a big act of foolishness all the way around," said Etowah County Sheriff's spokeswoman Natalie Barton.
