Senior White House advisers asked former President Bill Clinton to talk to Joe Sestak about whether he was serious about running for Senate, and to feel out whether he'd be open to other alternatives, according to sources familiar with the situation.
But the White House maintains that the Clinton-Sestak discussions were informal, according to the sources. The White House, under pressure to divulge the specifics of its interactions with Sestak, will release a formal statement later today outlining their version of events, including Clinton's involvement.
According to the sources, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel asked Clinton and his longtime adviser, lawyer Doug Band, to talk to Sestak about the race. It's unclear right now whether the White House will say that Clinton was asked to suggest specific administration positions for Sestak, whether Clinton floated positions on his own, whether Clinton discussed other options not related to the adminstration, or whether employment even came up at all in the talks.

In fact...many of them are guilty of treason, IMO.
I’ll wait for “the Sestak response”.
The don't own the Att'y Gen'l of Pennsylvania, and the November election strengthened the Republican balance on the PA Supreme Court. Despite the tendency to tilt Dem in presidential races, Pennsylvania on the whole is not a strongly Dem state, and certainly not a leftist state. I don't see everyone rolling over if the Feds and media continue to lie and stonewall.
For me the most delicious irony would be if Specter, by striking a deal with Ohaha's gang to switch parties in exchange for an uncontested primary, managed to bring down Ohaha and maybe more. That would be delicious . . . I can dream.
that’s what it looks like to me.... once again... the coverup is bigger than the original crime.
Since Clinton isn't in the administration, he can't make an offer, he can only relay a promise from someone who can.
That's why we need to stay on this. Just like with Rathergate. We have to keep it out there. If the press won't do it's job, then it's up to talk radio and the blogosphere to report. We have the power.
Don't you think by orchestrating this the admin can claim something to the effect that Bill Clinton is not part of THIS admin and does not represent the wishes of THIS admin?
somebody suggested putting Bill Clinton under oath...dag that thought tittilates. Again, the pubs...do they have the gonads to push this? I know they're not in the majority on committees and such but the American public understands implied bribes, we might know it goes on all the time, but we don't like it. If the alleged opposition party doesn't get out and beat this thing like a rented mule it will die.
The damage can be more from the publicity than any possible legal action, as I see it.
For sure it will help Pat Toomey, no?
I'll go a bit further and make a prediction:
Should this story develop legs and go beyond us political junkies:
Count on this:
One of the Bushes or a top aid will come out and defuse it via saying something to the effect of.
"ALL Presidents try to feel out who is best for what jobs, Obama was just trying to find the right fit, we did too ...blah blah blah .... no harm no foul." Note the keyword!
My sincerest apologies...Have a great Memorial Day weekend..
The web a spider weaves has both sticky and non-sticky threads. Even the spider will be caught in the sicky threads if it doesn’t navigate carefully. Let’s see what happens.
Has the “Race” card been played yet.
Bambi was in a hurry to get out of dodge (WH) yesterday, while dissing our Veterans in Arlington.
This AM on radio, heard he was going to LA today to meet with some people affected by the oil spill.
I wonder if he will make a pit stop in Atlanta, where they are kicking off a convention of the Black Panthers?
As soon as the Sh*t hits the fan, the race card will be played and he’ll need back up from a different direction totally. Who better than Holders buddies, the Black Panthers?
The first words outta Sestak were that he talked to a White House official, Bill Clinton cannot be characterized as such.
If Bill Clinton was the one who offered Sestak the bribe, then why would the White House lawyers need to talk to people all over the WH regarding this? I want the records of their inquiry, I want to see just who they talked to in order to determine there was "nothing inappropriate" done by WH officials, names, notes on what was said when and by whom.
There is no way Bill Clinton gets it in his head to tell Joe that there will be some cushy spot for him if he lets Arlen have a free shot. This doesn't settle anything.
Ha ha ha. We all need a laugh lately no?
It didn't work before, but it would be delicious if this put him in jail! It isn't like Obama has ANY loyalty to Clinton.
Just that guys’ stupid names pisses me off.
Gillibrand’s Dubious Opportunity
New York Observer, The (NY) - Wednesday, February 3, 2010
Author: Reid Pillifant
After his much-discussed Q-and-A with Republicans last week, President Obama went before a more sympathetic audience this morning: Senate Democrats.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was given a chance to ask the president a question about health care for 9/11 responders. Not surprisingly, the president said he supports taking care of 9/11 responders.
But, as The Hill noted, the fact she got some floor time might not be a great sign. Others who were able to plug an issue included Harry Reid, Arlen Specter , Michael Bennet, Blanche Lincoln and Barbara Boxer. All of whom are, to varying degrees, considered politically vulnerable this year.
Recently, the White House has tried to discourage Ms. Gillibrand’s potential challenger, Harold Ford Jr., and recently announced that presidential aide David Plouffe would headline a fund-raiser later this month.

If Bubba DID ask the question (doubtful), WHO from the White House authorized him to do so? If it was ALL BUBBA'S idea from the beginning (doubtful again), WHO would Bubba have gone to in the White House to coordinate this ILLEGAL act? This White House trial balloon changes nothing, except for now making Slick Willie a co-conspirator in this ordeal. As the inspector in the movie National Treasure said: "Someone's got to go to prison." |
