A Hesston woman was critically injured Monday when her pitbull attacked her in her home.
The name of the woman was not released.
A Chihuahua that also belonged to the woman became entangled in some string at the womans home about 2:40 p.m. Monday in the Country Village Trailer Park in the 400 block of East Hickory in Hesston.
The victim told police she tried to help the Chihuahua. She thought the pit bull must have thought she was trying to hurt the smaller dog.
She said she thought the dog attacked in defense of the Chihuahua, Hesston Police Chief Doug Schroeder said. The woman was bitten in multiple areas around her body and was taken by Hesston EMS to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita in critical condition, said Russ Buller, Hesston director of emergency services.
Schroeder said the animal was seized and will be under observation for 10 days to see if it has rabies or other diseases.
Pitbulls are prohibited in the city of Hesston, so the woman will not be allowed to keep the pet at her residence.
Schroeder said the city prosecutor will decide if there will be a determination hearing to decide if the dog is vicious and should be put down or if the pitbull can be returned to its owner under the stipulation it is not kept within the city limits.

Didn’t state what kind of dog it was?....Musta been a “Democrat” dog.
Owners fault.
Why are such high numbers of dog abusers attracted to this breed?
Must have been a bad owner.....Oh, wait
If someone wants a dog, get a real dog, like a Beagle.
Having a pitbull as a house dog makes about as much sense as that wack job woman in Conn. who owned a chimp who ate her friends hands, eyelids, fingers, nose, and ears off.
West Vincent man kills neighbor's pit bull, won't be charged
This guy happened to have his handgun on his deck (and sounds like he is pretty good with it...).
They are.
Its’ the owners.
A disproportionate number of dog abusers are attracted to pittbulls.
Pittbulls dont bite.
Pittbull owners do.
He should have shot the pitbull owners.
Its his fault not the dogs!
Of COURSE they are!! (Sarcasm).
If the Pit Bull Fanciers out there REALLY loved the breed as much as they claim they do, they would do what the Brits did with their ferocious bulldog in Victorian Times when they decided that watching a bulldog rip apart a tethered bull and get its body smashed in the process was not really polite entertainment. The Brits bred their ferocious monster into a gargoylesque friendly critter with an ugly face.
They should do the same with Pit Bulls. But the fact is too many pit bull fanciers seem to feel that controlling (or not controlling) an ugly, unpredictable set of vice like jaws on paws is a reflection of one’s masculinity.
I think they are suffering from a numerically challenged I.Q.
Chihuahua attacks are particularly vicious. They can lick your socks until you have to change them. Ditto for minpins.
There IS something wild about pit bulls. I know, there are thousands of great pit bulls who are great family dogs, etc. But they have been bred deliberately for viciousness, and much like old ordnance, when they go off, they go off. Somebody compile a list of toddlers killed by collies or spaniels. Anybody?

“Mixed breeds and not pure bred dogs are the type of dog most often involved in inflicting bites to people. The pure-bred dogs most often involved are German shepherds and Chow chows.”
Those damned, stubborn facts again!
>>Country Village Trailer Park<<
Pit bulls and trailer parks. Like ham & eggs.
was it a puppy dog?
Ummmmm........OK.
When you splash down back into reality, please re-join the thread.
I am being sarcastic.
I get hammered by pittbull owners always saying its not the dog, its the owners.
For some strange reason a hugely disproportionate number of bad dog owners are attracted to pitbulls.
Here in So Cal its a Mexican gang banger gutter dog.
If I am ever confronted by a hostile pittbul my first shot is into each of the pitbulls handlers.
