WASHINGTON (AP) — Melting pot or racial divide? The growth of interracial marriages is slowing among U.S.-born Hispanics and Asians. Still, blacks are substantially more likely than before to marry whites.
The number of interracial marriages in the U.S. has risen 20 percent since 2000 to about 4.5 million, according to the latest census figures. While still growing, that number is a marked drop-off from the 65 percent increase between 1990 and 2000.
About 8 percent of U.S. marriages are mixed-race, up from 7 percent in 2000.

I will also observe that there seems to be much more racial mixing in the southwest and in Louisiana than in the rest of the country by a considerable margin.

This is America, not Saudi Arabia for God’s sake.
Because some white guys are deciding that getting married is dangerous and unhealthy. If I hadn't gone to NM and almost gotten myself killed in a accident on a remote mountain during a blizzard, there's a really good chance that I would be married to a wonderful black woman. Fortunately, she decided that she WAS getting married (to someone else, thank goodness), and me being away for over a year saved me.
Two weeks in ICU or get married? I'd go for the ICU again. ;)

My wife is half Irish, half Japanese. As a child, she looked 100% Asian, but her name is Kathleen Murphy.
Teachers used to always do a double take when they called role and she raised her hand.

Marriage is about falling in love with somoene (whatever color they may be) and marrying them. Its not about raising interractail marriage growth rates so AP can write some article about it.

We have a racially-mixed family, too. Even over and above the fact that back in the day, Anglo-Saxon + Scots-Irish represented four races...:o)
