The likes of Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris, Jack White and Dave Grohl will all pay tribute to Macca in an event that will be hosted by the President and First Lady Michelle Obama.
Other performers slated for the celebration include Corinne Bailey Rae, Herbie Hancock, Faith Hill, Emmylou Harris and comedian Jerry Seinfeld. According to the Guardian, McCartney was selected by a panel of judges including Jimmy Webb, Paul Simon and ASCAP President Paul Williams.
In a statement, James H.t Billington, the Librarian of Congress, said, "Sir Paul has been writing and performing for more than five decades -- as a member of iconic groups and as a solo artist -- in genres ranging from rock 'n' roll to classical compositions. He also has made an impact far beyond music through his humanitarianism and activism around the world."
The former Beatle is just the third musician after Simon and Wonder to receive the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song since the honor, which is designed to acknowledge "the profound and positive effect of popular music on the world's culuture," began in 2007. A PBS special of the event will air on July 28.

Nice that our dear reader has time for this nonsense but none for Memorial Day. I wonder why.

While the fighting intensifies in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Korea at critical mass, the Gulf coast drowning in crude, and the economy collapsing by the minute, it’s “what, me worry?” Nothing a little spin and nonsense from the MSM won’t fix! More pictures of Michelle out on the town or digging in her garden, or the ‘bama golfing or shooting hoops-it’s the media’s slobbering love fest, ad nauseum. While America frets over ‘American Idol’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars’.

Beatle Praises Obamacare"It's a good thing that America has done," he [McCartney] said of recently approved health care legislation. "From a British perspective it's hard to see why everyone is so hot under the collar. You have a lot of poor people over there who aren't under the umbrella. And now they are. That's the important thing about it."

Te salute, Don Corleone! ;)
Obama doesn't like the military and historically has been documented and proven to be so. He's simply no longer pretending when it comes to them since he already knows how our military feels about him: overwhelming majority have little respect for him nor do they think of him to be an effective leader. But they are our wonderful men and women, serving for our collective wellbeing and safety and they will continue to do so because at the end it is the Constitution they respect. Unlike Da' Prez!

According to Laura Bush the first family gets a bill for food every week. The Obama family holds a party to make those bills tax payer expensed. They don’t pay for a party in honor of ____?? Parties every week, golf three times a week, more vacations than Klinton and GWB combined. This is one Chicago politican with no sense of how to solve the problems of working people. Graft and corruption are the lifestyle of the connected.

Wow forget spending time honoring our Military Men and Women but heck there is a lot of time to spend with SIR Paul McCartney. In fact, the Kenyan Prince will be returning just in time to give him the honor but hell no to our Military. Instead of placing a wreath at Arlington I wonder if he will be handing out flowers to Sir Paul.
Actually I don’t want to see that POS at Arlington. I don’t want a communist commander desecrating the holy site of our fallen Heroes.
Now if only the Kenyan Prince can stay in Chicago and never return to our House. I pray once they leave for Chicago someone locks the doors and never let them in.

Aside from commenting on the obvious disrespect this shows to our military heroes, past and present, as someone who has always really enjoyed the music of the Beatles and Paul McCartney in particular I can only observe that he, his talent, and all of his music combined doesn't amount to a pimple on the a** of a genius like George Gershwin, and I suspect he knows it.
Obama is just Obama and to me his non-attendance of Memorial Day services has a bright side. His very presence on such sacred ground is an affront.

You are quite right! I think Obama and his ilk does a better job in exposing themselves better than we ever will. Actions do speak louder than words, no matter how much some thing that not being the case!
