I read the curriculum, made a few suggestions to the board, and wrote a letter fully in support of it. It’s a good curriculum (of course, teachers still have to teach it).

There's the rub. I remember one teacher telling us to sit on our textbooks. She explained, "We have to cover the entire book this year. We have just covered it."

Putting this stuff in the textbooks will accomplish nothing. The kids will never hear anything about it.

If you want something to be taught in school in Texas, put it in the TAKS test. THEN the kids will be drilled on it over and over and over again.
