What would going into the gutter accomplish? This is smart politics by Hayworth. He's not attacking McCain personally or using negative campaigning, just pointing out that McCain has been wrong on most issues throughout his Senate career and contrasting it with what he would do if elected. It's sound strategy against someone who is still respected in the state and Congress.
