As luck would have it, Milwaukee resident Travis Constantides made his first visit to San Francisco's Castro District on Saturday afternoon, the same day the neighborhood basked in celebration of the state's first-ever "day of significance" to honor former supervisor Harvey Milk.
Constantides, 64, said a trip to the Castro was always on his to-do list - Milk had long been one of his personal heroes - and it proved serendipitous that when he finally made the journey, the dedication of a new plaque was under way outside Milk's old camera shop.
"It makes it more special to me," Constantides said. "I guess being here today makes me feel a little closer to Harvey and what he stood for - which is what these kinds of days are about."
The plaque dedication was just one event that marked the state's inaugural Harvey Milk Day, which also saw rallies planned in Los Angeles and smaller "day of community service" gatherings across the state.

California has an official gay day.
How very special.
Another purely affirmative action “holiday”. If that nut job did not kill Milk and Mascone would anybody care about Milk.
Ship them all to Cuba.
Because he as queer, the left has elevated him to divinity.
How appropriately on their emotional level.
Harvey was a big supporter of Jim Jones, so he’s a hero to people who believe in aggressive population control.
Harvey Milk encouraged gay men from all over the country to come out to San Francisco and be part of the gay culture.
I wonder how many of them ended up dyiing of AIDS.
And how much HIV will be transmitted today during this “celebration”?
Funny how articles like these always fail to mention “the other side” (counterpoints)
I wonder if visiting the killing fields of Guyana is on Travis Constatides’ list of “things to do”. You’re right Dr. Kimball, Harvey was a big supporter of the mass murdering Jim Jones and let Jones run with impunity while in the city of Sodomy.

Milk was killed by an agent of Jim Jones. If not for the cover provided by Milk, the FBI would have shut down The People’s Temple and 1,000 people would not have “drunk the Kool-Aide”.
