This sounds good in the short-term. A Republican won, where Republicans rarely win.
However, the Democrat vote was split and the Republican did not win a majority, only a plurality. There will be another vote in November of this year with one Republican vs. one Democrat. Odds are that the Democrat will win.
Similarly, Republicans are cheering the defeat of Arlen Specter. The polls show that, for Republicans, the best outcome would have actually been a Specter win in the primary, because he polls much lower in a general election race than the democrat that beat him in the primary (Sestak).
It's nice to win the battles, but the war is more important, and we're not doing as well as we think.
