Republicans were forced to "back down" from blocking Wall Street reform, according to a fundraising letter sent by the president.
In the e-mail to his supporters, President Barack Obama wrote that pressure on lawmakers forced Republicans to "back down" from blocking the legislation, which the Senate passed Thursday.
"This movement proved again that the strongest special interests, who for so long have called the shots in Washington, can be beat," he wrote. "When opponents in Congress tried to block the legislation altogether, you stood up -- and they backed down. When the lobbyists pushed for loopholes and exemptions just before a final vote, you did not relent -- and we fought them off."
Heading into the midterm elections, Democrats are looking to capitalize on momentum following the passage of the bill imposing new regulations on the financial services industry.
Several Republicans helped Democrats pass the bill.

TO ALL YOU MORONS PUSHING "RINOS THAT CAN WIN" -- THIS IS WHAT RINOS DO TO US. THEY STAB YOU IN THE DAMN BACK AND HELP DEMS PASS THIS KIND OF GARBAGE!!!!!
First of all, thanks for calling your teammates morons — that’s always healthy.
The main thing I wanted to comment on, though, is the haunting similarity between brocko and hugo. Two pees in a wad. I started noticing it as he went around the country promising the peasants who love him, “We can bring those fat cats down.” This numbnuts is fomenting civil war, whether he knows it or not. I suspect he does.
Scott Brown is like a cheap suit and a liar to boot. I hope he can live with himself after lying like a pig.

Were you disappointed with the Brown win in Mass? If you were, I do not recall your posts. Was there an alternative to Brown? Again, I do not recall.
Rather than excessive and unnecessary expletives and caps, how about focusing on winning. And by winning, I mean actually capturing Senate and House seats.
There are Freepers that know Scott Brown. How about a few of them giving ole Scott a call and ripping his rear.
So true. They will vote Marxist.
What was his lie? He said he would sometimes side with the dems. He is a RINO but he made no pretense othewise, and there was nobody more conservative in the race. People are wasting effort getting mad at Brown, he is what he is. Its not like a conservative lost because of him.
I somehow missed the expletives you are talking about. And no, I have no desire to win with RINOs. I’m with Demint. I’d rather see 30 conservatives who are willing to fight than a majority of RINOs who will add some window dressing to the march into Obama’s marxist hell.
Scott Brown is Susan Collins in slacks.
The Maine twins are quickly becoming the Northeast Triplets. Brown needs to realize that if the voters in MA wanted a rubber stamp for the democrats, they would have voted for the democrat and he will be a one term-er if they can't tell the difference, after all if you are going to get a democrat either way, you might as well vote for the real thing.
you should see his Facebook Page
Pissant, Hang in there and fight the good fight. I’m with you. I understand your point in your post. I would rather have 10 conservatives I can depend on than 30 RINOs like Lindsey Graham, John McCain and Olympia Snow. I can understand it when a democrat stabs me, he is my enemy, but when my own side does it to me it’s incomprehensible.
He’s just another lawyer who was far preferable to Coakley. He’s probably looking at this story with at least a little dismay.
Obama’s a punk - in more ways than one...
Voices in your head getting to you again?
You mean there are no folks here pushing RINOs because “they can win”?
What Brown's win did, even if he is indeed a RINO (a label with less and less meaning around here, seeing how much people here hate the Republican party), is make the unthinable happen in MA--a Republican CAN become senator.
Next time around, a more conservative senator can run and possibly even win, something that wouldn't happen going from an ultra-lib cold.
There are political realities in this world. Whining and calling people names because you're angry about those realities does nothing to alter them. Electing an imperfect but preferable "RINO" where only a liberal was before is a huge step. The "morons" will continue to take the next ones rather than crying that the perfect Republican didn't miraculously assume Kennedy's seat.
Well, If the liberal Bill Weld’s, Romney’s and Browns are the best they can offer, they can keep em. I have no interest whatsoever in having the GOP help Obama pass laws that allow the federal government to track every purchase and banking transaction I do all in the name of ‘helping me’.
So, your comments, in hyper-neurotic caps, had nothing to do with the context of Scott Brown’s election?
