That's what I understand.
In May 1960, President Eisenhower was supposed to visit Japan. USS Princeton was in Yokosuka Harbor for a change of command. Right afterwards, we RACED to a rendevous with USS Randolph in mid-ocean. There we picked up three HUS helicopters for Eisenhower’s visit. They were from HMX-1.
The helicopters were fitted with pontoons, backup electricals and had a small desk for the President. Anyone who has ever been in one knows how cramped they are.
BTW, the trip was canceled, due to riots in anti-American Tokyo. Ingrates!
