So what is the proper historical analogy? Is this 1789? 1848? 1861? 1914?
Whatever, one sure gets the feeling that all hell is about to break loose.
AD 476, the fall of the western Roman empire.
That's when Europe lost it's last vestiges of the umbrella of Roman protection from the barbarians.
It sure is acomin’ a right at us all. So big it be blottin the sun. But it cant be seen real good. Is it war clouds and thunder booms or creepin communism slitherin up da boots?
We just all feel the chill and approaching storm now-it is unseen maybe but still acomin.
1848, because it will be continent wide and based on the same issues everywhere. But the revolution is going to be about more than just the political order, and its going to last longer than just 1 year. The Krauts will lead the French kicking and screaming into the shrinking of the welfare state, and the two of them will force other EU states on the same path. In about 2-3 years all the conservative governments (UK, France, Germany) will be defeated in elections, and the left will try to restore the welfare state benefits. That’s when the Euro and the banking system there will finally collapse, and civil unrest will begin.
Believe me, it gives me no pleasure to make that prediction. First because I feel bad for the Europeans, even though they’ve done it to themselves. Second, because that’s probably our future too. There will be a conservative reaction to Obama that will be so painful (in terms of benefit cuts to the parasitic underclass) that it will result in an electoral swing back to the Libs, which will be disastrous.
