Please do expound on what you think the qualifications are to be a Senator, besides a sound mind, above average intelligence, and an adherence to conservative principles.
I don’t know what Didier’s IQ is, so I can’t comment on his ‘above average’ intelligence.
What I haven’t heard from him is that he has any knowledge about the parlimentary process, leadership or the orderly administration of power.
In the Senate, he’ll be surrounded by unethical opportunists, bloodsuckers, lobbyists, hangers-on and sycophants. Does he possess the requisite integrity and skill to manage ultimatums, temptation, deceit, obfuscation and flattery? Does he understand the distinction between ethical compromise and moral capitulation, and have the courage, character and spirituality to maintain a principle against criticism and intimidation? Will he honor his oath with a sincere proffer of his life, fortune and sacred honor, or just echoe hollow pronouncements that he neither understands nor believes in? Does his life reflect those conservative values he espouses? What kind of father, husband and friend is he?
There’s no litmus test that can measure these qualities, so the only measure we have is success in an environment where the traits have been likely challenged, such as a battle field, boardroom, or courtroom. Football would certainly have tested his physical courage and determination, but alot of professional athletes have a little problem dealing with temptation, prosperity and discipline off the field. Ethical standards in the NFL don’t earn Superbowl rings. Actions speak louder than words. Don’t tell me what he says or give me your opinion; tell me what he’s done.
