But really .... Remember that lots of FReepers have Armageddon fantasies. They like the idea of holing up in their compound and living off the land and occasionally stopping their idyllic life to shoo away some itinerant liberals that come begging for help.
I think that the reality would be a whole lot less pleasant but that's just me. To each their own.
I'm worried enough about the possibilities advanced in this thread to be prepared, but not worried enough to lose any sleep. And, let me qualify this statement by saying that I was also prepared when the economy was rolling along and there weren't any problems at all.....
Interesting. Tell us more! What do you mean?
In my case, I have the land, but it is hard work without gas/deisel. Without a tractor and power tools, I mean.
I had a beautiful patch of savoy cabages; simply awesome, big, leafy, wonderful plants heading up nicely and then the caterpilars came. I now have swiss cheese cabbage filled with dead caterpillars and caterpillar crap! You see, I used BT on the plants some time ago, it took only a day or two for the caterpillars to hatch and take off eating, then a day or two later they all died in mass. What a mess!
If my family was relying on me to put food on the table, it wouldn't be with cabbage.
Anyway, corn is up and looks nice. Happy to see that, what with all the rain we had over the winter. Still, the weather sure has dried up lately (looks nervously at cloudless sky and drying soil....).
