Lt Col Oliver North's last sentence in that article is:

"Perhaps Democrats just have a higher tolerance for deceit."

Yes, deceit is their greatest tool--the truth is not in them.

He should have been satisfied with saying that he fulfilled his military obligation. Deferments notwithstanding, he was not a draft dodger. I got out of the Army in 1963, technically before the start of the Vietnam era. Although we had Special Forces “advisors” in ‘Nam at that time, I always make it clear I was in and out before Vietnam and never left CA.

This wasn't some "misstatement," this was a lie by a phony. You don't "come back" from Vietnam when your whole career was spent in the Reserves in the U.S.

And what ever happened to the Democrat/MSM view that anyone who got a deferment or joined the Reserves during Vietnam was a "draft dodger"???

It would be interesting to know how many Democrat veterans of the Vietnam War are still with Blumenthal. For many of these veterans, the “D” trumps the “V” for Vietnam.

CT Sen Poll: Blumenthal Lead Drops To 3

In the wake of the top-of-the-fold New York Times article calling out Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal for exaggerating his military record, his Republican opponents have made major gains since the last poll taken just two weeks ago.

--------------

He will continue to drop in the polls and hopefully lose. But the libs don't care how many lies he tells. He will support 0bama and that is all they care about.

Jazy, there were guys like this after every war. World War I and II were no different. I can't speak to his need to jump on the bandwagon now that we no longer mistreat our returning war veterans — certainly not from the noble vantage point of having served, but my uncles talked about the jackasses they'd meet who talked like major players, only to find out they weren't even on the field, much less in the game. The guys like my uncles (one at Omaha and Anzio driving the LSTs up on the beaches at both) NEVER EVER SPOKE of what they saw or had to do.

I'm sorry this guy was so insecure he had to borrow someone else’s honor to get elected, but it's not like he was the first. He's the son of WWII aged parents and all of them who fought were so careful to keep their precious kids out of Viet Nam (mostly because McArthur told them to NEVER EVER get involved in the war in Southeast Asia), so they got them away from the battle zone any way they could. This is unfortunate. He should have just been honest that when he finished school, it was all over but the spitting and mistreatment — something America should be very ashamed of.

I love the way a deliberate, outright, offensive, often repeated, lie by a RAT is called a “misstatement”.

It looks like the media is trying to help Blumenthal out and help him parse words because he said he served in Vietnam and then he said served as a Marine during the Vietnam era later. The guy knew he had crossed the line that is why he came out and said he “misspoke”. You’d bet your bottom dollar that if a conservative Republican had said any such thing we’d never hear the end of it.

I have always referred to myself as a Vietnam-era veteran, and only if it was germane to the conversation. I would never claim to be a Vietnam veteran, since all my duty stations during that time frame were CONUS. I did spend a year in Okinawa after the war, but again, that was in peace time. I served six years active duty in the Marine Corps and this Blumenthal makes me want to puke.

Blumenthal would walk on the backs of his own children to be a senator. Face it, this is not anything he’s ashamed of. He’s just annoyed he got caught.
