CT VFW Cdr. releases statement on Blumenthal "regret"
VFW, Connecticut

The following statement is by Richard DiFederico, Department Commander of Connecticuts largest war veterans organization, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States:
Those who served in Vietnam or offshore or in neighboring countries rightfully earned all the belated thanks and appreciation our nation can muster. Those who served in uniform during the Vietnam era also deserve our gratitude, which makes Mr. Blumenthal's claim to be something he is not so outrageous. It diminishes the service of all who served and sacrificed, most especially those whose names are inscribed on the Vietnam Wall. Mr. Blumenthal was considered one of the best friends a veteran could have in Connecticut. It is a true shame that he let a false claim of Vietnam service change that.
Commander DiFederico resides in Oakville, Conn.

Mr Bloomenthall beer budget can only take him so far it seems.

Not on their website yet. They’re trying to get it up. They’ve been swamped with calls from all over the country. This is the body of the email. It appears that the VFW had little to say about the event, having received a call from the Hartford mayor about hosting the press conference. No VFW members appear on the stage with Blumenthal. Most “vets” behind him were from the Marine Corps League, an organization that doesn’t require actual combat experience for membership. A few VFW members, Mr. Rusko said, were seated in the audience; but none chose to stand behind the AG.

Channel surfing and just heard Rick Sanchez calling Blumenthal a LIAR, a LIAR.
Amazing! He played the clips of B saying he misspoke.
Sanchez then went on to say that the vets standing with him did neither themselves or him a favor.
Wonders never cease.

And, G.W. Bush gets ridiculed, his honor questioned, along with other Republicans who entered the Guard, AF, Navy reserves.
And, we are to listen to these people, who have two different sets of standards?

VFW HQs
They need to publicly repudiate Blumenthal for
stealing valor by using the VFW as a backdrop.

There was no "misspeaking." This guy served his Reserves tour in Washington, D.C., undoubtedly using his political connections to get the slot during the height of the Vietnam war. Oh, and that was after his "national security" deferment expired when he was Katherine Graham's assistant at the Washington Post.
This guy never got anywhere near the war. Given how the press treated President Bush's service, which actually involved some physical danger, this guy's treatment is rank hypocrisy.

I’m a Ct veteran and Blumenthal and will never be a friend of mine.

Not being qualified for membership in the VFW I'm not thoroughly familiar with their policies but in order to gain membership in the VFW don't you have to certify (prove?) that you,as a uniformed member of the US Armed Forces, served honorably in a combat theater? If that's correct the fact that Blementhal is a member proves that he lied on the application form...and lied big time.I served during the Vietnam era (as many did) but I *know* that I never got within 6,000 miles of Vietnam,Cambodia, the Tonkin Gulf, etc, during my time in uniform. That's something you kinda remember.

The Dems NEED to retain that seat, and are scared to death of a for-real GOP resurgence in New England. Goal is to take out Blumenthal before he gets the nomination so someone who can actually win gets it.
If this had come out in early/mid-October the Republican would've coasted to victory.
To: Carley
According to the WSJ he got a total of four deferments. I thought it was Democrat doctrine that even one deferment was “draft dodging.”
