DETROIT - A family in Detroit mourns the loss of a seven-year-old girl accidentally shot and killed by police during a raid. The death of Aiyanna Jones is making national headlines, and there are currently many questions. How could something like this happen? What went on inside an east side Detroit home early Sunday morning?

Relatives of Aiyanna met with attorney Geoffrey Fieger on Monday and re-created the scene for his investigators. The girl was sleeping on a couch around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 16 when officers with the Detroit Police Special Response Team threw a flash grenade through the window and an officer went inside, allegedly scuffled with her grandmother and then his gun went off. Aiyanna was hit in the neck.

Apparently this home invasion was videoed and the kid was badly burned by throwing the incendiary device through the front window.

The suspect the cops came to get was captured, but he may have been in a different, separate apartment in the building.

He was UPSTAIRS. If he thought of it as an "apartment" there'd be a separate address for it, and a zoning variance would previously have been acquired for it.

Otherwise it was just a room in a house.

Yes the police and first reports did not give enough information to properly asses the whole incident. Of course the lawyer for the family may not be providing the whole truth also.

I did not like the info given yesterday and this additional info does not sound good either.

I just wish the police would be more forthcoming with info. Many times I think they hold info to cover for themselves.

It was a separate flat, the police had a warrant that covered both locations. At least that is what I read yesterday.

Read an article early this morning that said simply that it was “upstairs”.

You're right. They weren't going after a neighbor. They were going after the boyfriend of the girl's aunt. They had the right place alright.

Aiyana Jones, 7, killed

Krystal Sanders, 30, holds a photo of her niece Aiyana Stanley Jones, the 7-year-old Detroit girl who was shot and killed this morning after a Detroit Police officer's weapon discharged while executing a search warrant for a homicide suspect on the city's east side, police said Sunday, May 16, 2010. Family friend Tasha Moore, 29, stands at right. Sanders said the police were after her boyfriend. (MANDI WRIGHT/DFP)

” an officer went inside, allegedly scuffled with her grandmother and then his gun went off. Aiyanna was hit in the neck.”

And why was a grandmother scuffling with a policeman and his weapon?

“Otherwise it was just a room in a house. “

No, the question would be was it accessible from downstairs or did it have a separate entrance...

The lawyer is Jeffrey Feiger. He’s known for engaging in hyperbolic political street theatre just like Greg Craig.

According to news reports I heard, it does have a separate address and a separate outside entrance.

Detroit, Buffalo, etc. have vast numbers of homes with an upstairs entrance ~ for wintertime. The issue isn’t whether or not there was a separate entrance, but whether or not it had a separate entrance accessible year round ~ which would suggest a stairway or some such. It would also need zoning approval and an address.

Did you miss the word "allegedly"?

Never having been flash banged I do not know how I would react. The purpose of a flash bang is to disorient, so she may not have even know it was a cop or where he was. The police have said that they use a flash bang.

“It would also need zoning approval and an address”

It may very well need proper zoning to be square with the zoning board, but that has nothing to do with this case.

From what is being reported the police got warrants for both locations. Clearly they considered it a different address.

You can bet the farm that when this civil suit goes to a Jury Trial in Detroit, it's gonna be multi-million-dollar win for Feiger......

Yes; it's sad when a child's life is lost, but without even looking I can guess that there was NO father/husband in the family.

A 7 year old does not harbor anyone. She is the one who paid the price. Stupid comment.
