#5) An Axe Staying along the theme of staying warm, you may want to consider investing in a good axe. In the event of a major emergency, gathering firewood will be a priority. Without a good tool to cut the wood with that will be much more difficult. Ummmm, it's like REALLY hard to burn green wood... If you've got to stay warm with wood, it needs to cured for at least a year. Squaw wood is easy to pick up - but everyone will be picking it up - and it burns quickly - not long enough to start the green stuff.
