Well, looks like Laura went totally to the (d) side.
Laura has never been accused of being the smartest bulb in the pack. Still, this is deeply disappointing. I guess this is just another side of the Bush “Compassionate Conservatism” - AKA - Liberal Lite...
Word to Laura: Your Irish Immigrant ancestors came here with a desire for a better life that included becoming part of the American Dream (and came here within the LEGAL method).
Those these laws are targeted towards come here illegally, not with the “American Dream” on their minds, but with the ultimate destruction of that dream. They come calling on us to change to accommodate THEM. To turn a blind eye to the massive costs they bring with them.
BIG difference.
Now it’s time for the usual numbskulls to come out and defend LBush as “classy” and say “what did you expect her to say?”
I don’t think Mrs. Bush has read the bill, she certainly needs to.
Someone tell this woman this isn’t the late 1800s or early 1900s....Gezzzz...
Why don’t all the Bush’s just retire and go away?
Far away....
I have been wrong about many things in my life, and Laura Bush is just another thing I been wrong about. I’m really disappointed.
However, in light of her recent public comments that seem to (a) buy the leftist lie that the new Arizona 'zero tolerance' immigration law is a legal fig leaf for Arizona police to randomly arrest anyone who 'looks Hispanic' and throw them in jail and, (b) her surprising remarks about 'being O.K. with gay marriage' combine to render Mrs. Bush a gigantic disappointment to many.
I never assumed Laura Bush was a hard core conservative (her husband sure wasn't) but if she holds these left-wing beliefs on serious social/cultural issues, I wish she would have kept them to herself and thus maintained her 'image' as an intelligent woman with good moral values. Unfortunately, Laura Bush now appears to have become (or always was) a somewhat feckless woman who holds positions on serious social and political issues that seem to mimic the insanity of the left. That is regrettable.
Fortunately, the opinions of Laura Bush mean little, today. Still, as this thread demonstrates, she remains a disappointment.
With this and her pro-gay marriage stance, losing respect for her seems more likely than ever.
She REALLY must not want to sell ANY books. :)
I just threw away a snail mail request from Dubya askin’ for $$ for his library or center or whatever.
He is a good man, but based on the nonsense his wife is spewin’, and his lack of fire in the belly to take on the communists who took over after he left, I am not interested at this time.
She has turned out to be a huge disappointment to me.
Will all the lonely old maids who spend 8 years on FR cooing over this idiot woman’s latest outfit, hairdo, etc... now all have to return their “toasters”?
Stupid woman....
Boy, does that sound familiar or what?!
Her husband is a liberal that ushered in the current regime, so why is it a surprise she is one too?
And dose it really matter what a former first lady has to say anyway?
I’m more concerned with the power hungry commie mommie we have now.
Laura Bush is a pro-choicer and legal marriage for gays. It makes me wonder about Bush.
At least she had the good sense to keep her leftist opinions to herself while Dubya was President.
So Laura is in favor of illegal immigration of Irish homosexuals getting married and having abortions in Arizona. She’s nuts.
The only ones in favor of abortion are the ones who are already born. The unborn get no vote in the matter.
Gay marriage is a sinful charade mocking a divine sacrament from the Lord.
Illegal immigration from anywhere is a crime against the citizenry of the nation.
Laura must have pickled her brain in cultural relativism.
Laura’s thinking is an exact match with the Resident’s BS emanating from the Whtie House. Must be nationalist socialist water on tap there.
It is a disappointment, but spouses and children often differ in opinion from the person who is elected to office. At least she was gracious enough to keep quiet while her husband was president. W surely read this, and perhaps believed that she had a right to let off some steam and state what she believed after all the years she had to sit silently by his side. Personally, I think she should have kept a lot of this to herself for a while longer, and she should have given these statements more thought.
Ronald Reagan had to endure the embarrassment of his two youngest children, who did not agree with his views. At least his two older children respected his views and agreed with him.
Laura was a classy First Lady. I wish she could have left it at that. Sometimes silence is golden.
...because there is nothing at all different about a white European Irishman compared to a Mexican...
