Not quite true from THEIR point of view. Maybe the Sunni and Shia don't consider them Moslem, but from the standpoint of the Alawis, there's some question about the legitimacy of the others.

You will always find some reluctance on the part of Moslems anywhere to let you know the particular subgroup they belong to ~ with good reason, too as it turns out some of these subgroups have been conducting open warfare with some of the others for hundreds of years and will initiate violence at the drop of a hat.

In Syria the President is an Alawi!

This Miss USA, in being a Muslim and having relatives who are top official in the Hezbollah organization over in Lebanon -- causes me not to be too persuaded to give her a "pass" on the matter ... LOL ...
