I agree with you about Laura's book. It's an intelligent, beautifully written account, not only of her life, but of the life of the country for those eight years.
It made me even prouder to be an American as I read her stories of traveling around the country and meeting courageous, sweet, strong, patriotic people.
I hope it stays on the best seller lists so more people can get to know her and the truth about what went on in the White House and the country. I certainly don't agree with some of the things she's been saying in interviews, but I respect her as a person greatly, and that's not going to go away.
Anyone who hates her now hated her before.
I start with the ignorance of facts.
Appalling that they scream that they were deceived, that she pretended to be a conservative and now she has betrayed them.
She did not pretend to be a conservative. Not a shred of evidence that she ever once did that. She pretty much ignored ideology and chose to focus on areas of interest to her and be supportive of her husband.
If you follow what she has said, and other simple facts, we knew her whole family were Texas Democrats, that she was United Methodist - who don’t say “born again Christian” - and that she once replied to a question by saying she hoped Roe v Wade wouldn’t be overturned. She is still worried about “back alley abortions”.
If someone jumps in to argue with such passion - as those here have - it is inexcusable to be so devoid of any facts.
SHE BETRAYYYYYYYED US. SHE’S NOT A CONSERVATIVE LIKE SHE PRETENDED!!!!! is their enraged cry.
Spare me. Get back to me when you calm down and study the facts that were already available.
I watched her interviews. SHe dealt with the hurt and shame of accidently killing Mike Douglas...her best guy friend at only age 17. Then, she says over and over things she thinks will make everyone feel good about themselves and their lives. She makes clear she doesn’t want anyone’s personal feelings to be hurt...illegal immigrants, gays, pregnant women who are considering abortion or had one, etc. Just the issue debates bother her because people might feel hurt.
I understand her. THe family calls her “the rock”. Like Bar was “the enforcer”. She wants it all to be ok, to spare bad or hurt feelings. She is an island in the storm, for others she feels are having a bad time in life.
I disagree with her issue conclusions. But I see who she is. This is the flawed condition of us all...one way or another.
Except for one, Jesus Christ. And for his perfection, he was crucified.
