Those bison are scary; and often annoying when trying to drive somewhere.
Stupid is as Stupid does.
Once an idiot - twice a knight
The depth and scope of people’s stupidity takes one’s breath away! I was hiking near Cades Cove and saw an idiot get between mama bear and her cub to take a picture. They thought I was rude when I called that to thier attention.
So we got to a state park that was close to Yellowstone and began to see buffalo on the fringe of the main herd. These were all old lone bulls, and any seven year old that watched Marlin Perkins every Sunday night knew to stay away from them.
We come over this rise and there is a guy who has pulled his truck over to the side of the road. He got out to take a picture of one of these lone bulls. Of course he had one of those Kodak 115 instamatic cameras so you know how close he had to get to fill the view finder.
Dad pulled over to the side of the road about 50 yards away and announced "Kids, pay attention. You are about to see a guy get killed for being stupid." That earned him an immediate slap to arm from Mom.
The bull suddenly charged this guy who jumped head first through the window of his truck as the bull dropped its head and rammed the door.
In general too many people get their knowledge of wild animals from animated Disney features.
Once about twenty years ago, I was hiking up the trail from Twenty Mile to Gregory Bald and heard some squealing. We looked up the ridge and saw two small teddy bear heads sticking out the top of a hollow tree.
We went to the tree to get a better look and actually beat on the tree. They stayed put.
I have reflected on this adventure often. God looks out for fools, especially fools who came to count flowers and found bears.
Talked with my sister, this happened near where she works. This was a CUB. They and their momma scrounge the trash every day. Signs are up, not to approach the bears.
DUMB BUTT was lucky it was the CUB not the MOMMA!
A LIBERAL NUT JOB. Only an idiot would get that close to a wild unpredictable creature like a bear. That is what a telephoto lens is for if you want a photo.
My sister who works nearby said it was a CUB one of 4 who with their momma scrounge the garbage. And YES signs to not approach the bears are up.
If so, this bear has become way to acclimated to people and associates them with food. Black bears are plentiful and in no way endangered. Euthanasia seems a wise policy here.
They will chase employees even. Happened to my brother, who lives with and works with my sister. He’s absent minded and didn’t check before going out near dusk. And you are right they have become way to acclimated to people and associate them with food. Zoo would be a good place for some of them.
