(WBBM) -- Could it be the voice of E.T.?
NASA scientists are puzzling over an abrupt change in what they're hearing from Voyager 2, the space probe launched more than 30 years ago.
It's traveled more than 8 billion miles toward the edge of the solar system. Chief scientist Ed Stone says Voyager has suddenly begun sending back data NASA computers can't decipher.
Here's what it sounds like CLICK HERE
Scientists think it's a simple glitch in the computer. UFO buffs are hoping it could be a signal from life on planets far away.
NASA will keep listening.
Voyager was launched in 1977.
More information from NASA:
May 6, 2010: On 22 April 2010 the DSN achieved a nominal carrier and subcarrier acquisition but was unable to frame-sync Voyager 2 telemetry in the routine cruise science/engineering data mode. We commanded to the 40 bps engineering-only data mode by real-time command, achieved frame-sync and found no spacecraft alarm conditions. So far, the only anomalous indication is an incorrect checksum from the Flight Data System (FDS) memory flight software region. We should learn more after we receive and analyze a full FDS memory readout. MORE
Sound? Music?
I think they put us on hold.
Interesting article.
I watched a docu today on how the CIA started a disinformation campaign to cover the real number of X-nazi scientists in the U.S. Used to explain “strange” sightings in the sky. Actually, testing of Nazi technology being developed.
Wonder if NASA is trying to use the same type of disinfo to keep their funding?
V’ger?
Hey this is straight out of a Sci-Fi novel I read back in the ‘80’s. The plot was a advanced alien race placed beacons around solar systems with life, which were triggered by the first spacecraft to leave the solar system.
Strangey?
Is it a recording sound?
There’s no sound in space.

****
Well, it could be a glitch. The OS is 33 years old but at least it’s not MS Vista. The fanboys are also getting their acne hard-on because they think it’s aliens making that sound.
weird
“Is it a recording sound?”
should be:
“Is it a recording of sounds? Sound can’t travel in space.”
Was it a whale sound?
It’s V-ger! Bet it’s looking for The Creator.
I believe that’s the same way all the signals sent by Voyager 2 “sound” — that goobly, gurgly noise of low data rate bit encoding.
We just watched the movie Contact a few days ago.
FREAKY.
Its NOMAD - executing its Prime Directive.
"This is Megatron, leader of the Decepticons. And if you are hearing this, it means I failed -- this time."
