Someone I know volunteered in a Social Security office and she said all they did all day in that office was eat and talk about eating. When that wasn’t happening they were having potlucks. She said they were all overweight and didn’t take long to get rid of her because she kept bugging them to give her some work, and that was interrupting their eating.
I know a man who worked in the social security disability section. He said he naively thought that he had a real job until it finally sank in that he had no possibility of ever approving an application for disability, his whole purpose was to find reasons to deny applications which would then be appealed, nobody was ever approved at the first level, it was strictly for show. He left the job and went to a job as a parole officer.
