When Robert Johnson first appeared in public, he couldn't play the guitar worth a lick. One year later he showed up again with the most amazing technique, and the legend grew that he had sold his soul to the Devil to play like that. Johnson loved stoking that rumor.

One of the more interesting films of the Eighties was "Crossroads", starring Ralph Macchio and Joe Seneca, that was about the legend of Robert Johnson. Seneca put some wonderful spins on some of his lines, like one about Macchio's guitar playing.

"This kid's from Long Island. That's the cradle of the blues."
