Some 20,000 pieces of mail - many more than a decade old - have been recovered from a postman's garage in the US city of Philadelphia.
Tubs of undelivered letters were discovered in April when the US Postal Service worker missed several days of work and managers visited his home.
The FBI said it took more than three postal vans to remove the mail, some of which dated back to 1997.
Investigators are still trying to find the postman so they can question him....

Why would anyone hoard mail? If he did not want to deliver them, then why didn’t he just throw them out, burn them, or something.

People like that think they can just hide their problem. And once it starts they can't stop themselves. Might be a similar mindset to a hoarder, dunno.
Several of these have popped up over the years. They're rare, but they do happen.

Twenty thousand pieces of mail and it took the Post Office thirteen years to figure it out?

No big deal. Seriously, if it was important they would have sent it FedEx.

I went to the DPS today to get a replacement driver’s license. 3.5 hours to get five minutes of face time.
Wonder how long the office wait will be when Obamacare becomes the way things are.
Wonder how many “samples” will sit in someone’s garage instead of being tested “just because” the work keeps piling up.
Read a story on FR this week about a police lab that lied on forms because the staffer didn’t want to bother to fill out the paperwork to run more tests (she said he DID test positive for drugs).

Twenty thousand pieces of mail and it took the Post Office thirteen years to figure it out? That's when you place a tracking device in some of the mail packages to see just where they are going...
