The good Rabbi can't be that conservative. Emanuel doesn't have conservative friends, only conservative enemies.
In this context Conservative only refers to the level of religious observance. It has nothing to do with political conservatism. Sadly, most American Jews have and will continue to drink the Obama Kool-Aid.
