drug deal gone bad?

Maybe, but more like a kidnapping gone bad. Either that, or a relative works for ICE, the FBI or something and this was a retaliation attack.

A friend of ours knew one of the men killed- worked with him. He said the story is one of the family members was wanted by the cartel and was in hiding. Many of the recent cartel victims are not involved in the drug trade or law enforcement as earlier victims were. The “word” out now is that if the cartel is looking for a particular person to kill and that person goes into hiding the cartel goes after family members- kidnaps them, tortures them for information about the person they are looking for and then kills them.
