(CNN) -- Fresh on the heels of a new immigration law that has led to calls to boycott her state, Arizona's governor has signed a bill banning ethnic studies classes that "promote resentment" of other racial groups.
Gov. Jan Brewer approved the measure without public statement Tuesday, according to state legislative records. The new law forbids elementary or secondary schools to teach classes that are "designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group" and advocate "the overthrow of the United States government" or "resentment toward a race or class of people."
The bill was pushed by state school Superintendent Tom Horne, who has spent two years trying to get Tucson schools to drop a Mexican-American studies program he said teaches Latino students they are an oppressed minority. There was no immediate response from the Tucson Unified School District, the law's main target.

Ironic isn't it?
They did not ban ethnic studies
They banned classes from teaching racism and advocating overthrowing the government.
How whacked is the MSM for thinking that that is all Ethnic Studies does. geesh
:)
No wonder McAztlan is scared.
Tom Horne was on the local (Phoenix) radio station two weeks ago talking about the ethnic studies class he was targeting. He said that the text was written by a South American Marxist.
Horne also mentioned an American border city which was allowing Mexican residents to be bussed to their schools so that they could collect Arizona state funding for the class hours. He said that the state was planning on going after the school district for past fraudulent charges.
Somehow I don't think that sort of thing was limited to just Arizona.
Pretty much sums up President Obie's teachable moments, eh?

The state of Arizona has passed a new law that is bound to be popular with the average America while making leftists and their media wild-eyed furious. The new law bans classes in public school that advocate hatred for a race or class of people, advocate overthrowing the government or is designed primarily for students of a particular race or ethnic group.
They did not ban all ethnic studies program, only those meeting the above crtieria.
Then again the “Main Stream Media”, you know them they call themselves the “real journalists” and they are special because they have “gate keepers” to keep out crazy stuff and misinformation. (haha)
Well that MSM has decided that it does indeed ban all ethnic studies courses because, dang it, they can’t figure out what else those classes would do besides engender hatred for white people, rich people and advocate overthrowing the government.
Apparently they simply think that is what “ethnic studies” is suppose to do.
No, but that’s not racist at all. Right?
I love Texas, but I'm really beginning to consider a "fling" with Arizona!
The busing of students was apparently a big deal. Horne said that 200 students were involved which represented half the school district.
They were teaching La Raza (The Race) classes.
Same here, bud. Raised in Christian schools that my parents worked so hard to provide for me. They saw what what public schools were like and vowed that we would never enter those hellholes.
Jan Brewer, raising Arizona, leading America, from the Governor’s Mansion.
At my Catholic High School, we were a truly "diverse" population of folks; however, we were all united in our faith. That one commonm element put us all on the same playing field. Not suprisingly, we did not have racial tension in our classrooms. I don't remember any racial animosity - ever - because we simply didn't see ourselves that way.
Not nowadays. Certainly not in public schools. We're too busy celebrating our differences to appreciate our similarities...when it's the common bonds that break down walls and help us see each other as people.
Thankfully, I'm avoiding that mess with my children. After several years of trying to make the public school system work, I took the road less traveled and am now homeschooling.
Wow! I’m seriously thinking of moving to Arizona! Maybe sanity will finally reign somewhere.
Ping.
As Arizona goes. . .and we must hurry
It will be fun over the next few days to listen to the race baiters defend this.
Arizona is going for the full boat.
