The sleeping giant has (hopefully) awakened. I fear the sleeping giant may have awakened too late. I see the situation as irreconciliable.

I fully agree. While the sleeping giant may be awake, the damage that has been inflicted by communists and other leftist fifth column elements is irreparable. At least half of the public at large in the USA is dumber than than a toothbrush and is more than satisfied to whistle past the graveyard.
The only question now is how much bloodshed will be involved to bring some level of equilibrium the the disaster that we used to call the United States of America.

A day or two ago, I would have agreed with you. That was when my very liberal 28 year-old, *still* unemployed nephew mused whether Obama was trying to destroy this country on purpose; he's not normally much interested politics. In my more cynical times, I may still see it as irreconcilable. That's when my faith kicks in.

Yeah! The sleeping giant is like Gulliver, awaking in the land of the Lilliputians. He was a giant to these tiny people, but while he slept, they had tied him down with hundreds/thousands of tiny threads. Altogether, the tiny threads held the giant down.
I am thinking the fact that the populace has slept for so long that the progressives have already tied our hands with many convoluted statutes, policies and brainwashed several generations of people into welfare mentality.
Gulliver managed to escape when he awoke; I only hope we can, too.
