GOP: WV congressman's ouster referendum on Obama

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - A West Virginia congressional seat that's been held by a Democrat for generations is now up for grabs after 14-term incumbent Rep. Alan Mollohan was swept out of office on a wave of voter unrest that an opponent called a referendum on President Barack Obama.

The congressman is the first U.S. House incumbent to be ousted this spring primary season amid widespread anti-incumbent sentiment. The same unrest helped end the 17-year career of Utah Republican Sen. Bob Bennett, who lost a GOP convention on Saturday.

State Sen. Michael Oliverio carried 56 percent of the vote to Mollohan's 44 percent Tuesday night after an aggressive campaign that questioned the incumbent's ethics and support for issues including federal health care reform.

But he acknowledged that he faced a "strong headwind" of voter discontent.

"It's true there is definitely a wave out there, a national mood and wave," Mollohan said after conceding defeat.

Looks like Mollohan should have used some taller styrofoam pillars.

Longtime Democrat Party hack Mohollan from the first Congressional District in West Virginia lost his job tonight in the Democrat Party primary. Josh Kraushaar from Politico tweets that he lost because he went too far to the left when he voted in favor of Obamacare as his opponent attacked him from the right.

All of these little incumbents are paying the price because we don’t get a shot at the one incumbent we really want to send packing until 2012.

The fact that holding elected office is now referred to as a "career" is a huge part of our current problem. We can and should fix that, across party lines!

A (D) kicked out because he’s too liberal! I’m really shocked. I thought this was only happening on the (R) side.

D or R - if they’ve ignored us for too long or consistently voted in their own selfish interests and against ours, they are in deep trouble if they must face the voters this year. The past five days should set klaxon alarms off all across Capitol Hill. Now you will see massive scrambling, dissembling and outright lies from the congress-critters and their fellow travelling rats in the media. If Peter jennings thought we “threw a temper tantrum” in 1994, it’s a shame he won’t be there to see our rage in November.

A “career” today and an inheritance tomorrow?

That’s called “Potomoac Fever” and this year we are curing a lot of cases of it. Even McCain seems to be a tad more conservative this season.

No doubt.

When the GOP holds the White House, every Congressional race is a ‘referendum’ on the president. Somehow the MSM don’t want to make that connection this year.....

"GOP: WV congressman's ouster referendum on Obama"

Sometimes it's better to just shut up and let the people figure out the obvious for themselves. I believe this is one of those times.

Hmm. Maybe symbolic: Don’t forget that the Potomac River begins in the mountains of West Virginia.

(Really true. Just check your map!)

We met with him at a town hall rally and again in Washington in Sept.....he wouldn’t budge, his mind was made up and you could tell that something was wrong in his eyes......they (Pukeosi & Zero) must have had something so big on him that he didn’t dare cross them.

his opponent’s platform was basically “I won’t vote to keep Pelosi as Speaker of the House and Mollohan will”.

Reports are that an FBI investigation into his ethics was dropped three weeks before the health care vote (just a co-ink-eee-dink, I’m sure...)
