When a three term incumbent senator of any affiliation is knocked off, a shiver runs through the club. "Am I next?" appears to hang in the air, precariously wafting through the ornate halls. And in a rare moment of candor, I got a glimpse of this.
Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-UT, invited me to join him on the underground subway that connects the outer office buildings to the Capitol, as we chatted. It's about a four minute ride, but boy did I want it to be longer today. Sitting across from us - Sen. Arlen Specter, D-PA, who is in the political fight for his life back home with polls showing him down against his primary opponent, Rep. Joe Sestak.
It's an odd turn of events in Pennsylvania, with Specter jumping the GOP ship when a challenge from the far right from former Rep. Pat Toomey, former head of the conservative Club for Growth, proved too much for him.
Meanwhile, across the country, three-term incumbent Sen. Bob Bennett, R-UT, just got his head handed to him Saturday at a party convention...
Now back to that subway ride. Here's what then transpired, perhaps best put in script form --- my rough log of my journey:
Specter to Hatch: So - you better watch out, Orrin, Toomey's coming to get you next.
Hatch: What's that?
Specter: That Club for Growth is going to be coming for you next just like they did me.
Hatch: Man - they really savaged Bob. But they're after Republicans.
Specter: Well, they got me.
Hatch: It's vicious out there.
Specter thinking, pauses - looks at me, smiling wryly: Well, you've got the big scoop now don't you?
Gulp. Did I ever. As "fly on the wall" moments go, that one was pretty darn decent.

Quiet Arlan!
Don’t give it away!
Oreo Hatch is about to get his head handed to him. I suppose he will pontificate and then vote to confirm this fat Lesbian commie to the court. We can only hope that will be his last confirmation vote for the SC.
Looks like a RINO hunt is going on! LOL!
I laugh every time I see them! Sestak has a clip of Arlen saying, “I switched parties so I could get re-elected.”
Whoever wins the primary will be severely damaged goods.
It is RINO SEASON... Season runs til Election Day!
When the people fear the government, we have tyranny.
When the politicians fear the people, we have Liberty!
Orrin may be a has-been. Specter is a never-was.
Orrin could rediscover his brass ones whereas Snarlin' Arlen has nothing to discover in the first place.
The Republican congress that emerges after the November elections is going to be FAR more conservative than the 1994 congress was.
I bet they are going to throw the entire remaining Republican leadership under the bus once the new guys get there too!
:)
And the democrats are not going to know what hit them.
ROFL
Me: “Well, Senator Specter you know what they say?”
Specter: “No, whats’ that?”
Me: “Either lead, follow, or get out of the way.”
Specter: “Whats’ that supposed to mean?”
Me: “You wouldn’t do the first two so they made
you do the last.”

First time in a long time the old buzzard from Pennsylvania has made any sense. If Hatch votes for this nomination he might as well hitch a ride with Bob Bennett right out of town.
Oh yeah... it ‘tis the season!
Sadly, it doesn't occur to Mister Specter that he "got" himself; and, he needed only to respect the values of his constituents and he would not be headed for the (metaphoric) wood chipper.
Arlen Specter, you are about to be fired, and you will leave Washington without any friends. It is your fault, not the voters.
.
Yup! Mr... “I’m so reasonable and get along with everyone” will no longer be needed by the citizens of this country. He can get one of those upside down tomato growing contraptions and contemplate his navel as they grow.
Cant happen too soon, Hatch has morphed from a conservative I met 40 years ago into a socialist RINO.
I do believe this is our chance to do that. If we blow it and elect more go along to get along RINOS - we deserve the destruction of this fair Republic and all that will follow.
Its not about being gentlemanly anymore - the implications are too obvious.
Hatch and friends are no longer fit to represent those who put them in office.
