The video doesn't begin to show the damage.
There were big mobile clean up response buses when I went to the Commissary today doing building clean up.

I used to live right next to the base’s southwest corner back in the late 1950’s-early 1960’s in a housing development known locally as “Mud Flats”. The houses are long gone, but that whole area is/was under water. The Millington YMCA on South Navy Circle would now be directly across the street from our old house, if it was still there.
Yeah, right. Even our dem governor hasn’t been on this end of the state, and now he’s going to CHINA! With 52 of 99 counties storm ravaged.
Shady Oaks Trailer Court (300+ units) STUNK of sewage today when I passed it, Trailers have orange X’s on them, house hold items ruined in front of them. Smell was worse last week I’m told.
The families are going through hell. most of their material posessions have been lost or damaged beyond use. What genius decided to put that place of such importance on a flood plain.
To top it off, the Navy had no continuity plan in place. Once the waters hit most transfers, and separations were placed on hold. The operations were down to nil for more than a week leaving a lot of people in the lurch.
It might have made just a little sense to have some sort of back-up plan in place just in case. In the private sector, I had to submit a continuity plan whenever a person came on board or left.
Those sailors were using Facebook to keep people updated and last I checked, that while it a good idea, I’m not sure that using Facebook constitutes a plan.
Some heads need to roll, or get promoted.
I used to live just off the picture where the arrow points.
Recent sat photo of where our house was.
Now some well connected contractor will fly in from some other part of the country and bring a large group of questionable ( but never questioned) workers. It will take 5 times longer and 10 times more money to complete the job as some local firm and subs could.
Outatown will take a bundle of bucks away and all the unemployed locals can watch. Many of the questionable will remain in the area and open new businesses to complete with the locals who survive. No problem local you can work for the new guy when you go broke.
Oh the money to pay Outatown will be printed some time next week and the locals that watched will be on the hook for the payback.
Disaster Rebuilding 101
Seen lots of graduates but I have never figured out where to take the class
There were a lot of Green mobile bus style recovery response units on the base today. Most of the work was being done by the Sailors from what I could see. SO FAR.
I took photos of some areas of Millington today. Shady Oaks Trailer Court 300+ units looks like a war zone, stinks of sewage, has orange X’s on the units and guards patroling the area. Nothing there a looter would want, as it is a total loss.
