DCCC Pulls Out of Hawaii Special Election Race (Charles Djou favored to win !)
FOX NEWS ^ | 05/11/2010 | Kris Alingod

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), the panel charged with getting Democrats elected to the House, is pulling out of the race to replace former Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-HI) in a special election scheduled for later this month.

Former Rep. Ed Case (D-HI) is vying with Hawaii state senator Colleen Hanabusa (D) along with Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou (R) for the right to succeed Abercrombie.

The race appears to favor Djou as Democrats squabble behind the scenes. Case infuriated many of Hawaii’s Democratic establishment a few years ago when he challenged longtime Sen. Daniel Akaka (D-HI) in the Democratic primary. He is splitting his vote with Hanabusa.

“The DCCC will not be investing additional resources in the HI-01 special election,” said DCCC spokeswoman Jennifer Crider. “Local Democrats were unable to work out their differences. The DCCC will save the resources we would have invested in the Hawaii special election this month for the general election in November.”

Losing the seat would be a blow to Democrats, who have long-held this left-leaning seat. Abercrombie did two stints on Capitol Hill, one lasting nearly 20 years. He resigned from Congress in February to run for governor.

The votes will be tabulated May 22 and election officials will announce a winner then.

A couple months ago one of Obama’s people (?Axelrod?) said to watch this race and the one in PA, he said they were going to show that the democrats were “back” and have momentum going into the fall elections. I can't wait to see the Dems and their friends in the MSM try to rationalize and explain away this one. Now if we can just do the same with Murtha’s old seat in PA.

ROLL CALL ALSO REPORTS THE DEMS ARE GIVING UP THIS HAWAIIAN DISTRICT :

http://www.rollcall.com/news/46030-1.html?ET=rollcall:e7498:80083139a:&st=email

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced Monday morning that it will no longer invest resources in the May 22 special election in Hawaii’s 1st district, effectively ceding the race to Republicans and likely setting the party up for what could be their first special election loss of the cycle.

Nice, but this itself means nothing for GOP vs Dem fight.
Dems have 2 libs running here with >50% support in total.

This is like, say, Senate race in Texas where two conservatives get 33% each (66% for conservatives) while Dem with 33.1 % gets elected.

LOL. Very funny. But those who don't know, the man is of Taiwanese ( ergo, Chinese ) descent. Charles' surname "Djou" is a French transcription of his Chinese surname "Zhou."

His wife though, is of Japanese descent.

If my memory serves me, at one time Axelrod was Campaign Manager for John Edwards and he made a lot of predictions then.

For those social conservatives out there, konw this :

Charles Djou opposes Hawaii House Bill 444, which proposes to legalize civil unions for same-sex and opposite-sex couples, stating that lawmakers “ignored the will of the people” who enacted Hawaii Constitutional Amendment 2. He supports the federal Defense of Marriage Act.

Interesting. I would have guessed that he was of Vietnamese ancestry because of the French name.
