Three Muslims from Indonesia were 'distraught and afraid' after their boss at a suburban Taipei factory forced them to eat pork over a seven-month period or face punishment, a Taiwan rights group said today.
Taipei prosecutors indicted Chang Wen-lin, the owner of Shin Hua Hang Fashion Co, on April 26 for forcing the three women to consume pork during their September 2008 to April 2009 employment.
In their indictment the prosecutors said Chang believed the meat 'would give the women more stamina for work' and threatened to take money out of their salaries if they did not eat it.
Islam forbids its adherents from consuming pork because it regards pigs as unclean.
Susan Chen, of the Taiwan International Workers Association, said her organisation cared for the three women for three to four months beginning in April 2009 after they filed a complaint with Taipei county authorities and were removed from the factory by labour rights officials.
'They were distraught and afraid when they came to our shelter, partly because they thought they might be sent home,' Ms Chen said.
'They still showed a lot of fear when they met their employer again for the first time after their rescue during a meeting to discuss employment disputes.'
Chang was not immediately available for comment.

LOL
Sounds like a plan to me.
well, then they found out it maybe tastes pretty good then.
there’s nothing funny in this story
That’s your opinion. They didn’t have to work there. Given the trouble those muzzies cause all over the world I see a great deal of humor in this.
While some may think this amusing, I personally would refuse for health reasons: I am actually ALLERGIC to pork and its products. I have a co-worker with a deadly allergy to the allium family. He can’t even be in the same room as onion fumes, with anaphylaxis a REAL concern.
Laugh if you wish, but there are reasons OTHER than religion for avoiding some foods for some people.
Okay, who has a link to the “That wasn’t chicken” fortune cookie pic?
I agree with you. Islam is a death cult, but I wouldn't force someone to eat something they don't want to eat under threat of financial penalty.
I love a story like this. No one to cheer for, nor anyone to hate.
Sorry. Every Muzzie loss is a gain for freedom. Tough sh*t.
Eat pork, work more. Political correctness is an unknown concept to the Chinese. That’s the only thing I like about them.
SFW??
“They didnt have to work there”
Really? So, you know the personal history & financial situations of these women & the job market in Taipei, and can tell us all that they didn’t have to work there?
If they were poor orthodox jews working in the factory and forced to eat pork, would that be funny too?
Orthodox Jews would quit and do something else.
Do orthodox jews blow up themselves, cars, and buildings because their religion demands it? Do they hijack planes and behead people who don’t believe in their religion? Do orthodox jews they beat, rape, and murder women and treat them like slaves or cattle? Did their prophet rape a 9 year old girl? If not then it’s not exactly a valid comparison.
Pander your liberal garbage somewhere else.
‘They were distraught and afraid when they came to our shelter, partly because they thought they might be sent home,’ Ms Chen said.
Sounds like they were more afraid of what would happen
to them when their husbands found out.
“They are not slaves.”
How do you know? They’re Indonesian women working in a Taipei factory. How do you know how they got there or what their situation is?
These poor women aren’t blowing anyone up, they’re trying to earn a living.
Why don’t you ask one of our soldiers fighting in Iraq which one of us is spewing garbage.
Take a look in the mirror.
They are not slaves, they can leave, they chose to go there and they chose to stay there. China is being colonized by muzzies just like the rest of the world. If they had been abducted the story would have stated so as it would have been an important aspect of the tale as there is a big difference between slaves force to eat pork and voluntary employees forced to eat pork to keep their jobs.
