The Packards Want Carly Fiorina to Pack It In (Letter from Arianna Packard)
RedState.com ^ | March 8, 2010 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 05/10/2010 3:59:44 PM PDT by FTJM

“If Ms. Fiorina is what passes for conservative in Washington today, then the establishment has veered sadly to the left,” writes Arianna Packard, grand daughter of David Packard, the co-founder of HP, in a letter RedState has obtained a copy of.

Back at the turn of the 21st century, David Woodley Packard, the son of the founder, went to war against Carly Fiorina over the HP-Compaq merger. Vanity Fair documented the merger wars. It was not pretty. Both the Hewletts and the Packards opposed the merger.

The bitterness from the merger wars lingers on.

Ms. Packard’s letter, written to Senators Inhofe, Coburn, and Kyl relating to their endorsement of Carly Fiorina, makes for interesting reading and signals that the heirs of HP intend to take her down. They lost once and they don’t want to lose again.

“I know a little bit about Carly Fiorina, having watched her almost destroy the company my grandfather founded. So, allow me to disillusion you of a few of your stated reasons for supporting her,” Ms. Packard writes before detailing, rather unflatteringly, Carly Fiorina’s tenure at Hewlett-Packard.

You can read the whole letter here. Game on in California. This comes on the heels of Carly Fiorina losing the California Republican Assembly’s endorsement by a 2/3 vote despite receiving Coburn, Inhofe, and Kyl’s letter supporting her.

I wasn't aware that any of the Packards or Hewletts for that manner were Republicans. Most are big time liberals and the foundations are big supporters of abortion.

If this gets legs, it delivers the nomination to Tom Campbell on a silver platter, IMO.

We’ll see.

So, Sarah Palin believes friendship trumps political accumen?

And we Conservatives are supposed to just accept that Sarah Palin, ‘The Wise’, is our future presidential candidate for 2012?

Well, guess what? That’s not the way it works in reality.

It is important that a person running for office be able to seperate emotional attachments to liberal-leaning friends from hard-headed political decisions. To do so otherwise is to invite an eternity in the polticial hinterlands for making stupid choices.

LOL...

"Senator Inhofe, like the global warming fear mongers you so admirably excoriate, you are taking action without verifying the facts. The only explanation that comes to mind for this is the fact that your nephew works for Fiorina's campaign. At a minimum, this conflict should be disclosed before you ask the voters of California to take your word that Ms. Fiorina is the conservative she claims to be.

I know a little bit about Carly Fiorina, having watched her almost destroy the company my grandfather founded. So, allow me to disillusion you of a few of your stated reasons for supporting her."

I agree completely. Sara is a populist, NOT a real conservative but since she showed her colors and endorsed Fiorina over the conservative DeVore (reprising her RINO role in AZ) most Freepers now believe that Carly walks on water. It’s sad to see.

That’s a great letter and from what I know of Carly it has the ring of truth. Maybe Arianna Packard can help save us from ourselves.

The Hewlett Foundation certainly is. See their website for the evidence: Hewlett Foundation.

The Packard Foundation appears to be bit more balanced, although there is a lot of overlap: Packard Foundation. David Packard was certainly a conservative: he was on the board of trustees for the American Enterprise Institute for several years.

Dave Packard was undersec/defense. He stated that if he could, he’d fire a bunch of people. Unfortunatly, he’s gone and his children (daughters) are very liberal. He left each a billion $...

So, Sarah Palin believes friendship trumps political accumen?

No, As Tom Campbell, breezes to a victory, running on a pro abortion, pro gay marriage/adoption, anti gun agenda, Palin wants to stop him with a pro life, anti gay marriage, NRA member, that is closest to him in the polls.

Tom Campbell is actually campaigning as being pro abortion and pro gay marriage, that means when he is elected, he will know that he was chosen to advance that agenda.

“Campbell supports abortion rights and gay marriage, and argues that Boxer’s greatest asset against either of his two Republican opponents, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and state Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, would be the state’s decidedly un-conservative social views.

“She has always been able to move the debate over to the social issues. She will not be able to do that against me,” Campbell told POLITICO.”

“Sarah” already has two big checks against her in my book, although on the whole she is “one of us” and still a good conservative choice and in fact could kick he stuffings out of Obama (or Clinton or Biden) in 2012. Having said that, any more checks against her and she is liable to be demoted from “Sarah” to “Palin” in my postings here on Free Republic.

I meant to say the two checks against her are Fiorina support and McCain support.
