Posting something relating to the thread in the main body helps others to get an idea of what the thread is about.

It's always a good idea to do that.

Here is why: You care about the message in the article you posted so you want to discuss, maybe learn or educate others, right?

Bottom line is that you won't get much response because lots of people like me won't go to the article and read it. What you'll probably end up with is a 10 or 12 post thread that just kind of dies. I don't mean to be harsh, but unless it's a huge newsbreaking item, you won't get much response.

You posted this some 20 or 30 minutes ago and it's up to about 9 posts, with 2 of those being mine, 1 is a reply from you to me and the other is madistan calling me an ass. Not exactly the riveting repartee’ you were looking for, I'm sure.

No big deal though. I post the “excerpt” thing about once a week. It's a free service I provide as a long time FReeper!
