Another reform high on the list is removing the state from the marketplace in crucial sectors like health care . . . [and] making it easier for the government to lay off some of the many thousands of public sector workers, whose low levels of productivity and high wages are a big contributor to Greece’s debt problem.

Don't be silly. As the Obama/Pelosi regime pushed socialized medicine on our country, they assured us that socialism would allow them to provide more and better medical care at a lower cost, and the NYT backed the regime on that claim. The same is true for the "Stimulus" boondoggle, which the NYT also supported. I'm quite confident that these socialist measures beloved by NYT liberals have not gone from being wonderful money-saving ideas to budget busters in the space of a few months or one year.

It is what elitists do. They insist on something for themselves while putting down others because they are not “worthy”.

Right now Greece is making a mockery of socialism and that upsets socialists. So naturally the socialists are going to concoct a story about how Greece didn’t do it right and there by do not deserve the glorious social policies.

It’s not a different view it is the same view from a different angle. So they are not being hypocritical.
