Down the road if everything else fails, how about blowing the hole shut with a nuclear device. It will kill a bunch of fish but may prevent the oil from doing any more damage. Well just a thought, probably most of those environmental handwringers would not go for it.

You might try leaving the rational technical thought up to the experts.

Your “fix” would not only make the situation much much worse, it would fracture the upper strata and allow oil and gas to migrate to untold distances from the hot spot, in the surface formations.

Oil companies use this technique (not nuclear) to increase production and extract oil from formations that have a low yield potential. Doing so, has allowed oil production to increase in areas previously considered not economically feasible.

Yeah, I live in the city that the Press-Register is based out of. I’m not too hot on the idea of setting off nukes in the Gulf, if just because we don’t know what the hell would really happen if we did so.
