DeVore: "We need to kill our enemies." (Transcript)
RightScoop ^ | May 09, 2010 | Chuck DeVore

Posted on 05/09/2010 3:58:27 PM PDT by FTJM

"Short answer to your question is yes, it is unconstitutional and for that reason, I signed a pledge to repeal Obamacare four months ago. Carly Fiorina signed it the day after it passed and Tom Campbell still signed the pledge.

To go back to the previous question, though, I think it's very important what's going on in Afghanistan. It's very important that we understand that the Taliban and Al-qaida does not present a existential threat to the United States. They don't have an industrial base. They don't have armies. They're terrorists. Now, because of the fact that Afghanistan has no means of national support for a large army, where is the endgame? Are you proposing that we just stay in Afghanistan until they develop a modern economy and a modern democracy? For heaven's sakes, their constitution was drafted by the French as part of the NATO mission and it envisions a strong central government which is inimical like afghan culture and tradition. I'm an intelligence officer. I'm a lieutenant colonel. I've studied this issue. We need to kill our enemies. We don't need to build a modern nation state where one cannot exist for 100 years."

I think he is saying we should quit the nation building.

And frankly speaking, once Obozo announced our pull out time table the war in Afghanistan is doomed. When we leave the Taliban will march into Kabul. And carry out reprisals against out friends who supported us the same as the Viet Cong did to our allies in Vietnam.

Another pill to swallow when you elect democrats.

But facts are facts people...the war is going to be lost and we need to plan ahead for that contingency.

OK, thanks. I was curious. Kinda disappointing to hear. We should unleash our troops to go all the way there. But I doubt that will happen, especially with our current leadership.

Good post, mick. This war was probably lost the night of the last election.

Still not sure that was the reality DeVore was facing with his remarks here. Immaterial to me though. He lost me at "sheepdog".

Sarah wants Boxer gone, bad, and she doesn't want Campbell. She made the calculated choice that Fiorina could win and DeVore couldn't. What evidence I've seen seems to support that. At any rate, Palin knows the situation a heck of a lot better than I do, or probably any of the other armchair geniuses around here.

Fiorina bothers me with her administration of HP. I agree with you on that. Her stated political views seem OK, but she's an unknown. Sarah Palin knows her personally. I trust her judgment. Hope she's right.

Lots of conservative backstabbing going on around here. Nothing new. I'm reading the book on Reagan's insurgent 1976 campaign against Ford, "Reagan's Revolution." Excellent read. Neither Reagan nor Ford had the votes going into the convention. Reagan made a bold move to "shake things up" by designating a liberal, Richard Schweiker, prior to the convention. It backfired on him when conservatives, not liberals, stabbed him in the back and bolted, effectively ending his chances.

Nothing's changed in conservative land. LOL.

I'm reading that he says Al Queda and Taliban are our enemies and we need to kill them; not build a modern nation when the Afghans know nothing of freedom (just tribal allegiance and chiefs)as we know it in a Republic. He seems to be saying that we can spend time and resources building a modern nation which will be another socialist entity keeping the people still in a dependent mode, since the French wrote the Afghan Constitution.

I feel for the Afghan women and children, but sadly, I agree. Bomb hell out of all Taliban/Al Queda enclaves and come home. Afghanistan will be depending on our know how and money 50 years from now if we stay. At the same time, they will be growing poppies and exporting drugs while fighting us and any Afghans who want to join us in striving for a free nation.

Thousands of years of tribal history, the Afghan landscape, and more modernly, the Russian war with Afghanistan proves it will be a much longer and costlier haul than we expected. If not for us, the Russians would still be fighting them--good for us, bad for both Russians and Afghans, as both would be expending their own resources and each other, instead of ours.

the threats to this country are many. the threat of annihilation, either by nuclear destruction or political fiat, are the fears of Americans.

anyone pushing to fundamentally change the country is pushing to annihilate the nation as it is now. no? please explain how this is not the case

Thanks Al....I think you are right about SP and Fiorina....she made a calculated move...and we must trust her judgement....feels okay to me.

I am going to get that book about the 1976 campaign you are reading. Thanks for mentioning it. I was a campaign worker for RR that year and I remember well my feelings of disappointment when he announced his VP pick before the convention. If I remember it was bad advice from John Sears...who RR had to fire in 1980 because the guy was an over rated washingtom rino insider.....but what I most rememebr about that convention was that even in spite of terrific conservative opposition to Schwieker, RR refused to budge in throwing him to the wolves at the convention...saying he gave his word and he was going to dance with the guy who brung him!!....a lot of us realized then that even though we didn't like his decision he was a man of his word, a stand up guy and could be trusted whatever happened....when he went on the stage that night to congratulate Ford I knew in my heart he would be President....I have the same feeling about Sarah...as I know you do too....that she is a women of tremendous strength of character just like RR.

...that she is a women of tremendous strength of character just like RR.

That, my FRiend, is the key. You have put it best, "she can be trusted with power". Strength of character is everything in a potential POTUS.

The one good thing coming out of 1976 was the remarkable transformation in Richard Schweiker. He went from having just about the most liberal voting record in the GOP senate caucus to a reliably conservative vote in 1977-1980 as measured by the ACU. He became close to Reagan, enthusiastically endorsed him in 1980 and served in his cabinet. Real leaders like Reagan have that effect on people.

I've spent a lot of time watching and understanding Sarah Palin, as I know you have. I think she's got the makings of another great leader. Time will tell. She's got to go through the GOP "trial by fire" if she runs and I hope she does.

Have a great week, mick.

A few suitcase nukes is a greater threat than an army and an industrial base.

DeVore sounds like Ron Paul.

Do you have a transcript?

When he was talking about pulling out afghanistan he also said this “We have to prepare for the next enemy, it’s not in Afghanistan, it’s the People’s Republic of China,”

Don’t go wiggy on me, are you going to show me where I have ever attacked Devore? What is scary about this post asking if you had a transcript, did something bad happen in the debate that has angered you?

This post looks nonthreatening to me.
