Mark Landsbaum: Chuck DeVore is the dark horse

In a different era, Chuck DeVore might have been a shoo-in for the Republican Party nomination for U.S. Senate. His conservative credentials are nearly impeccable.

For six years, his voting record has been as uniformly pleasing to the right as might reasonably be expected for a member of the state Assembly, where integrity routinely is traded for votes. The Irvine lawmaker's endorsement by the California Republican Assembly and emergence as Tea Party darling only solidified his bona fides.

He's pro-life and pro-business, against big government and against big taxes. He's for job growth by having government leave private employers alone, and he's for the military, reasonably tempered with skepticism about direct interventions. He promotes nuclear power and bristles at global warming laws that curb production and use of energy.

He thinks Obamacare is an abomination. The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers' Association and the quintessential Reagan-like Republican, Rep. Tom McClintock, have endorsed him.

So naturally all the sensible FR moderates threaten everyone with dire consequences unless they go with the other candidate, who while a political unknown, has the star power. Same ol' song & dance.

LOL, will we ever learn.

It’s funny what “star power” does to people.

I wonder how many people here are unaware that Tom Campbell is running on an openly pro abortion, openly pro gay marriage, anti gun, platform in this GOP primary, and he is easily winning.

We only have weeks before it is all over but the crying and we only have 25% undecideds left.

Quixotically, in this Internet age, he is banking on a billboard campaign to combat opponents' expected television ad barrage.

This guy is using billboards to get his message out?? In California?

Prehistoric cave drawings were not available or what?

Nobody wins every competition. DeVore’s campaign has not been successful. Unfortunate but reality. He’ll be back.

Any FReepers want to see a general election between Boxer & Campbell?

There it all is FReepers. (Good article) There is ONLY one candidate worth the vote. I pity the party if Chuck isn’t our governor.

I’m voting for Chuck. Tom is the worst of the three. If it comes down to it I will have a hard time pulling the lever for Tom. But then I look over and see Boxer. Geez what a choice but that is California politics.
