May 08, 2010 Palin Stands By Fiorina Endorsement Amid Backlash From Supporters
Despite facing fierce criticism from her supporters, Tea Party hero Sarah Palin isn't backing down from her endorsement of former Hewlett-Packard executive Carly Fiorina in the GOP's U.S. Senate primary in California. Palin's endorsement surprised and outraged many of her supporters who expected her to pick Tea Party favorite Chuck DeVore.
"The governor is never one to go with the flow," Jason Recher, a spokesman for Palin said, explaining that the former Alaska governor respects the differing opinions but is sticking by her choice. "She is a very independent person, and she shakes things up in establishments -- including grassroots establishments -- all the time."
The former Republican vice presidential candidate made the endorsement on her Facebook page, saying Fiorina's experience running a major corporation is sorely lacking in Washington.
In the Thursday posting, Palin called Fiorina a "Commonsense Conservative" who has the potential to beat "liberal" Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer in November. But Eric Odom, chairman of Liberty First PAC, a Tea Party-fueled political action committee, called Palin's endorsement an "unforgivable sin," and her second strike after endorsing her 2008 running mate John McCain in his Senate race.
"This one is much worse, though," Odom wrote on his blog, arguing that Fiorina is not a "commonsense conservative."
"The first strike was painful, but tolerable," he said. "This second strike is downright confusing, dishonest, and leaves me feeling cheated." Fiorina -- an adviser on the McCain-Palin ticket in 2008 -- is essentially in a two-person race with former congressman Tom Campbell, who is leading in most polls. DeVore is trailing far behind.
More than 7,400 Palin fans clicked the "like" button on the Facebook endorsement, but the snub of DeVore prompted the Facebook outcry.

You’re forgetting Rand Paul. 3 strikes. Get bent ‘Cudda.
“Get bent Cudda.”
It’s “Cuda”.
Was Scott Brown a mistake? He’s only conservative in the context of the state he represents. Would you prefer Barbara Boxer stay where she is? Remember: Governor Reagan signed an abortion bill and President Reagan signed an amnesty bill. No one in office is going to agree with you all the time!!
I'd rather see Rand Paul in there, than a lot of mamby pamby, go along to get along "conservative Republicans."
You chew your Cuda, I’ll chew mine.
It’s not a fair comparison.
Scott Brown had already won the Republican primary and was running against far let Martha Coakley when she supported him.
Rand Paul, endorsed by Palin, Jim DeMint, Steve Forbes, Jim Bunning himself. The right choice, for the pro life and conservative crowd.
Paul leads Grayson among pro-lifers by a 50%-32% margin. Grayson leads Paul among pro-abortion Republicans by a 42%-27% margin.
Conservatives, Christians, social conservatives, and the statewide Kentucky voting population support Rand Paul.
Conservatives favor Paul by 51 percent to 29 percent with 16 percent undecided. Those who attend religious services regularly or occasionally favor Paul by double-digit margins. Gun owners back Paul 48 percent to 22 percent with 22 percent undecided.
Rand Paul leads by double digits among men and women, among conservatives, pro-life voters, gun owners.
Grayson leads today only among the 1 in 5 Republican primary voters who say they are pro-choice.
Do conservatives really vote based on endorsements? I’ve yet to meet a true conservative who allows some individual endorsement to change their mind on who they believe is the best candidate or who will receive their vote. Most conservatives I know are better versed on the issues (and history) than any candidate.
The liberal Trey Grayson only wins the support of the pro abortion Republicans, he is finished.
Trey has been a consistent 15 points or more behind, and this weeks poll says 15 again, that race is settled.
Palin’s endorsements have been extremely effective, going back to December of 2008.
Certainly seems to be a real unhealthy obsession with Sarah Palin around these parts and it isn’t from her supporters.
I agree - what ever it takes to get Boxer out.
And Fiorina is not a career politician.
There are no strikes against Sarah Palin. If you don’t like who she backs then move on. She isn’t running for anything.
I’m not from California anymore (left Chino in 1974) so not familiar: Is DeVore or Campbell actually electable against Boxer?
Its the haters that are obsessed with her..and it has nothing to do with her endorsement of Fiorina. its whenever there is a supposed “controversy” they come out of the woodwork to bash her. I can care less who she endorses, its her business, not mine. Some people need to get a damn life already and stop making a fuss about Sarah Palin endorsing this person and that person. If people can’t make up their OWN minds and choose someone based on their beliefs and they need someone else to choose for them, well they have bigger issues to deal with..oh and the Rand Paul endorsement was a good choice, and so was Alan West and others who she has endorsed. I think its funny how people say “Its two strikes against her” good God do people need to get a life already!
Eric Odom is a Ron Paul lover. He pulled out of the TPC the minute he heard Sarah Palin was the keynote speaker and blame it on money. Yet he has a PAC for Ron Paul.
as i noted in another thread that was taking swipes at palin, what exactly in the list of conservative credentials she listed for fiorna, is rino?
until carly is elected and in office, and suddenly veers off these current stands, why bash sarah for backing her?
That's what I said. I am tired of all the threads rerunning the same tired stories. Sarah Palin has every right to endorse who she wants. My hope is that anyone who has a problem with it would get off their ass and work for the one THEY endorse. Constant whining from so-called conservatives gets tiresome.
