Legalize pot? Get mom onboard Activists target women in push to legalize marijuana

DENVER - Moms got tougher drunk-driving laws on the books and were directly responsible for passing and then repealing alcohol Prohibition. Now marijuana activists are trying to enlist the nation's mothers in legalization efforts with a sales pitch that pot is safer than booze.

The nation's largest marijuana legalization lobby recently started a women's group. The Moms4Marijuana website draws thousands. And just in time for Mother's Day, a pot legalization group in Denver has created a pink-carnation web card asking moms to support legalization.

These marijuana moms argue that pot is no worse than alcohol, that teens shouldn't face jail time for experimenting with it and that marijuana can even help new mothers treat postpartum depression.

Crystal Guess talks during a news conference to launch the Women's Marijuana Movement in the State Capitol in Denver on Thursday.

"I know so many mothers who support this but aren't willing to come out and say it," said Sabrina Fendrick, head of the Women's Alliance at the Washington-based National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, or NORML.

Marijuana activists say they need more moms to publicly back pot use if they are to succeed with public officials.

"The mother is the first teacher, who you turn to for direction in life," said Serra Frank, a 27-year-old mother of two in Boise, Idaho, who founded Moms4Marijuana in 2005. It has no formal membership, but Frank says its website has had more than 12,000 visitors.

Pot activists say both genders sometimes find it easier to attend protests or lobby lawmakers about pot than to tell their mothers they smoke weed. So legalization groups hope that if moms, arguably the nation's most powerful lobby, get on board with making pot legal, laws will change in a hurry.

Thousands of years of Cannabis based culture is what made the Middle East and East Asia great, and so much better than the thousands of years of alcohol based Western culture is.

By all means let us adopt the Arabs love of pot and Hashish so that we can become like them.

But is pot more harmful than Alcohol? Is it more harmful than cigarettes?

“Hold my joint and watch this...”

Now, I’m not saying that it’s harmless, but is it so dangerous we need to have the government to tell us what we can and can’t smoke?

MJ also kills lungs. Imagine holding in all that tar, etc.

We must develop a society that looks down on drug use, or we are doomed.

Just think, mom, you can have your kid living at home smoking dope round the clock, doing nothing,..............till he's 62.

Then he might give you some of his Social Security, if your lucky.

THIS JUST IN.....TEXAS COPS NEED HELP GETTING RID OF 200,000 POUNDS OF WEED

http://www.tokeofthetown.com/2010/05/texas_cops_need_help_getting_rid_of_200000_pounds.php.

The Brooks County Sheriff's Department has a marijuana problem. They've got 200,000 pounds of pot, and they're complaining that it would be too expensive to destroy it.

"This is a problem that doesn't seem to be going away and anything we can get to help us to dispose of these cases once they're done and to get ready for the next one that are coming in would be a great help," said Deputy Daniel Davila.

Something tells me Toke of the Town readers could be of great assistance to the deputy. After

It didn’t work out too well with alcohol, and that damages the liver. It didn’t work too well with cigarettes, and they kill lungs, and it doesn’t work well at all with prescription drugs, they are abused all the time. Methinks regulation of these substances, taxing the hell out of them, and getting them out from the shadows and strictly regulated will be the only bet we have. Just because something is legal, does not mean everyone will use it, just like most folks don’t smoke, drink, or abuse prescriptions. But it will force the junkies to pay their fair share, and eliminate the need for under the table, money laundering drug dealers. Fact is, prohibition does not work in a free society.....

I don’t have any major issues with marijuana legalization on its own but I do have issues with the dishonesty associated with it.

20 years ago they claimed there was no violence associated with it. Now they claim there’s violence but its all somebody else’s fault. There’s the claim its for medicinal use when its obviously only an excuse. There’s the fantasy that the violence in Mexico would just disappear if it were legalized. Then there’s the willingness to sell out to the likes of George Soros so he’ll fund legalization efforts. The false claims of millions of people in prison because they were caught with pot.

The fact is that legalization will lead to hundreds if not thousands of new laws across the country. Taxation will mean there will still be smuggling.

Look at illegal immigration, our government isn’t even bothering to fight that war and there’s a great deal of violence associated with it.

“I look at the kids now who are so medicated, on Ritalin and all the rest, and I'm wondering why we don't explore what's natural, and that's marijuana,” said Irwin, who is moving to Denver to work full-time at her older son's dispensary.”

Umm, perhaps we should look at the reasons that so many children have behavioral disorders instead of looking for other sources of medicating them into passivity? Could it be that they have parents that are self absorbed liberal aholes too busy to correct their behavior? Or are the parents too busy rolling joints to notice?

The only problem with pot is it takes your ambitions away and your money too.

Western man has always been alcohol based for thousands of years, while the Arabs have always been cannabis based, for thousands of years.

Now can anyone here really say that the Western people's have been on an unstoppable path of growth and advancement during their energetic history, while the Arabs have basically laid on the couch and eaten Cheetos for thousands of years?

Actually, you are right, that pretty much is true, pot based cultures are just like...pot heads.

Yeah, right, let's corrupt Mom and get her on board, to bag up the kids.

Oh, wait -- that's been done. Lucifer got there first.

“The Lotus-Eaters” comes to mind. Alcohol kept us from dying from water-borne disease for millenia, and now it keeps us from putting our offspring in the freezer. It obviously has very positive natural-selection effects.
