If Bush were president and reacted this way the Dems would run vicious ads saying he was out of touch. Same with any Republican president. Will the GOP have the nerve to make ads about this and run them during the fall campaign? Would it be a winning issue? I think it could energize the base even more and make some independents turn our way.

He really is making it easy for a deft advertising type to clip some stuff together - a la "fiddling (golfing) while Rome burns".
