According to the disciplinary referral, she would be separated from other students during lunch and recess through Friday.

This is not a terrible punishment, especially if weaker penalties fail to impress other students. She does not have to stay after school. She can quietly read her bible or meditate on her behavior during detention.

It seems silly to take away a childs candy and punish her, especially if she had an otherwise nutritious lunch. It is none of their business, IMO. It is her parents business, not Obama's.

*She can quietly read her bible*

What rock have you been under? You honestly think the same school that punished this child for ONE piece of candy is gonna just sit back and let her read a Bible on school grounds?!? My God her punishment for that would probably be the chair!
